They're trying to scare Wisconsin using Ted Kennedy!
I just had to laugh: in tonight's Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel,on page A8, Focus on the Family ran a half-page ad with this banner: "Will Senators Kohl & Feingold listen to Ted Kennedy or the people of Wisconsin?"

(Lol--I hope they do listen to Uncle Ted!) The ad had pictures of all three senators, and went on to try to scare us by saying that our senators might be influenced by Kennedy, whose "political and social values are vastly more left wing than those of mainstream America" to vote against "Alito, the most highly qualified Supreme Court nominee in 70 years"!!

It goes on, "Ted Kennedy and the usual crowd of liberals have targeted Judge Alito for defeat--and are pressuring their fellow senators to make that happen. So, which will it be, Senators Kohl & Feingold: Massachusetts values or Wisconsin values?"

Then they give phone numbers and ask people to call Kohl and Feingold.

I don't think there is much danger that anybody from Focus on the Family will sway either of our fine Senators, do you?

2. Massachusetts values or Wisconsin values

OMG! Massachusetts is populated by a bunch of scary alien people. Who would ever hang out or correspond with those strange folks. Honestly, decent people refuse to take their phone calls or open their mail. They are just dangerous and ookey. (Hey, wait a minute, I'm from ... ah, probably proves their point.)

Gee, we never got an ad from Focus on the Family in the Globe. I am intensely curious how they would have asked us to talk to that scary Ted Kennedy or that scary John Kerry. (Ahm, they are from Massachusetts? Nah, that wouldn't work. So are our mothers.)

So, do I have scary MAssachusetts values or what? Was it something we said? Why do people hate us?

3. I'll take MA values any day!
And for their information, there are a lot of us Wisconsinites who would! Milwaukee and Madison are both dark blue, for cripes sakes--who are they trying to kid? That's why it's so funny. Maybe somebody ought to tell Focus on the Family that WI voted for Kerry last year! We have some nice progressive values in this state--think Wm Proxmire and Gaylord Nelson. And now Russ Feingold.

It's kind of a weird coincidence that both of our senators are on the Judiciary Cmte. That's why they probably decided to target us.

6. I like your Sens, btw
I think russ Feingold is a good man and I look forward to heairng his questions for Judge Alito. (Geingold has a strong voice and he should add a lot to that hearing. His obvious concern for civil liberties and the erosion of same under the Patriot Act makes him one of the more 'must-see' questioners at this hearing, I think.)

Sadly for me, I am less familiar with your other Senator. What's he like?

Then they'll try to scare people about his dog too. It's a dog. With big teeth. And Massachusetts values.
