1. Poor Democrats - he will not travel or play tennis with them anymore
I wonder who he was aiming, but they will be so sorry not to swim or play tennis with him (I am sure Byrd is very relieved that it is not him).

But Stevens said when he returns to Washington, he will no longer consider some Democrats his friends. The final refuge debate became too personal, he said.

"When I first went there, you would never hear a senator speak about another senator the way they were speaking about me that night," he said. "There are people I've considered to be personal friends without regards to politics, and they were turning into vipers as far as I was concerned. ... The extent of the venom there on the floor, that would never have happened in the days gone by."

Stevens said he has "written off" those friends.

"I'm not traveling with them anymore, and I'm not going to play tennis or swim or do various things with them."

2. Gee, Ted has to eat lunch alone now in the cafeteria
cuz he feels the clique is disrespecting him. Honestly, what year of high school is he in now?

Ahm, I know he traveled to Iraq with Sen. Kerry in August. I wonder if this means no more 9 hour flight in a military transport jet with Ted. What a loss. :sarcasm: And that Maria Cantwell is definitely out of Ted's will. How dare a Sen from a neighboring state disagree with Ted.

4. high school ? - it sounds about Fourth Grade to me
So, the military has to provide 2 planes at the point they're ready to leave - so Stevens doesn't get Democrat germs.

3. Not travel with them any more?
Kerry did travel back from Iraq with Stevens and Warner - is he going to make Democrats take a different plane back in the future? I doubt it was a real pleasure for Senator Kerry.

As to tennis, I seriously can't imagine Kerry and Stevens playing tennis - it would be cruel of Kerry to do that.

15. Well, that's not what I was going to say, but
if Stevens ever did what we don't want to imagine Stevens doing, he'd probably be in a good mood now and again. Hulk tie or no.

8. Well, this is just absurd.
I guess since no one cared when he threatened to quit if they didn't pass ANWAR, he's had to change his position. Now he won't leave until they pass ANWAR. Seems like a more effective threat to me. Maybe he thinks that'll flip Kerry's vote? :eyes:

11. His refusing NOT to leave would be more compelling than his

vow not to play tennis with him, but I bet on Kerry rejecting the temptation to get rid of him - as he would like stay anyway. Whether Kerry plays tennis or not, I doubt Stevens could keep up with him.

12. Stevens is a wingnut.
People fight for things with conviction and if the country is not with them they try reasoning to bring people around to seeing their POV. Not Stevens. His, like the wingnuts, his to throw tantrums, push, shove, bully, and become bitter and self-centered. He is fighting a losing battle and his approach---tuning out the people who need convincing---doesn't make sense. Then again, neither does he.
