Swift Boat Veterans for Alito
Well, well, lookie here...

<snip>

Why are Swift Boaters -- the folks who smeared John Kerry's war record in the 2004 election -- now trying to promote Alito's nomination by capitalizing on yesterday's bizarre incident?

<snip>

This post this summer from the citizen-journalists at ePluribus Media notes that the Judicial Confirmation Network is essentially an arm of Campaign Solutions, "the public-relations firm for Bush-Cheney '04, the Republican National Committee and the National Republican Congressional Committee." And the JCN had hired Creative Response Concepts as a key part of its team to aid John Roberts, now the Chief Justice, and Alito in their Senate confirmation battles. (JCN's leader, Gary Marx, used to work for Century Strategies, the firm of Ralph Reed, best pal of Jack Abramoff...small world, isn't it?)

Who is Creative Response Concepts? Among other things, they were "the brains" advising Swift Boat Veterans for the Truth last summer, when the group made national headlines with its smear campaign against Kerry's Vietnam War record.

<snip>

To the consultants at Creative Response Concepts, the distance separating "dishonest and dishonorable" and "fair confirmation process" is apparently not great -- in physical terms, at least. Interview requests for CRC's clients are routed through the main switchboard at a single telephone number; extensions 108 and 110 at the same number handle Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, while extensions 109 and 130 are for the Judicial Confirmation Network.

Turnpike Authority drops publicist
Firm had worked for anti-Kerry group
By Frank Phillips, Globe Staff | December 11, 2004

The Massachusetts Turnpike Authority, facing the wrath of state Democratic leaders, yesterday canceled the contract of a Washington, D.C., public relations firm that during the presidential campaign worked for Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, the group that attacked John F. Kerry's Vietnam war record.

snip...

The Turnpike Authority had hired Creative Response Concepts, a Virginia-based firm, on Nov. 19 to handle national media inquiries that have been made to the agency since widespread leaks in the Central Artery tunnel were disclosed. The turnpike then faced inquiries about the contract with Creative Response Concepts, which originally was to extend for three months and pay $75,000.

snip...

The firm's client list also includes the Republican National Committee, along with strongly conservative advocacy groups such as the Christian Coalition, Contract with America, and Americans for Fair Taxation.

It also represents Regnery Publishing of Washington, D.C., which published ''Unfit for Command," a book by Swift Boat Veterans leader John O'Neill that attacked Kerry's war record.

Regnery also published Governor Mitt Romney's book, ''Turnaround," a memoir of his work organizing the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City.

a lot more...

2. CRC again. Boy, they are slime buckets, aren't they
Bbtw, we know what Sen. Kerry did in '05 on his birthday. Do you remember last year's birthday? Blast from the DU past:

Posted by TayTay 12/20.04

I forgot to post this last week when it came out in the Boston Globe. Sorry. Consider this a Holiday gift for readers of this group. It's a revenge story, read on if you like those, skip it if not. Interpretive remarks are all mine, based on years of observation.

The Boston Globe had a story on Dec 11th (JK's b-day, if memory serves) about the Massachusetts Turnpike Authority ("MTA") canceling a contract this Big Dig agency had with Creative Response Concepts ("CRC".) It turns out that CRC was the PR firm that had done work for the evil Swift Boat Liars. Apparently, the MTA thought that they could sneak this contract past everyone in the aftermath of the election and get away with it. A spokesman for Sen. Kerry's office blasted the deal by saying the deal was "just the latest breathtakingly stupid decision by the Republicans in charge of the Big Dig."

The Sr. VP of CRC, Mike Russell, responded with this zinger, "I'm sorry the Kerry campaign is coming unglued over this, but the bottom line is the election is over. There was no political motivation in the hiring of CRC, nor was there any political motivation in our efforts to get the word out about this terrific project." (Which, by the way cost taxpayers both in MA and nationally $15 billion dollars and leaks like a damn sieve.)

Nobody locally would comment on whether or not there was political pressure put on the Republicans who run the MTA to hire the consulting firm. I can just see all the local Rethug bastards swearing on a stack of Bibles that this wasn't a political bag job, oh no, we just, ahm, picked their name out of a hat. No, no we ahm, opened a yellow pages and threw darts and it just happened to land on their names. Morons.

Now local Rethug bastard Andy Card is chief of staff for *, and GOP Evil-Genius-in-training Ken Mehlman cut his teeth on MA politics. (Card was a rep here, then sold his soul to *, Mehlman went to Harvard and helped out Bill Weld, when he was sober, on his campaigns.) And CRC represented nothing political in any way, just the Republican National Committee, the Christian Coalition and Regnery Publishing, which published the SBVT book of epic lies, and, oh yes, Rethuglican Gov. of MA, Mitt Romney's epic book 'Turnaround' about how he single-handedly saved the Winter Olympics in 2002. (But there was no payoff, this was a deal on the up-and-up. Yeah, if you are a f*cking lying bastard with ethics you couldn't find with a National Geographic expedition.)

Turns out somebody noticed. Lots of local Dems, like oh Ted Kennedy and John Kerry noticed and got totally pissed. I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall when that phone call went out. That contract lasted 3 weeks, probably cost Romney and his flying band of the mentally challenged whatever miniscule amount of respect they had left with other powers in the state and made 'em look like an idiot. I, of course, loved this.

I saw a story with a date of 12/19 from the St. Louis Post Dispatch where one of the SBVT Liars was whining about MA punishing CRC and vowing to continue to pump out negative stories about Kerry. Honestly, what a bunch of f*cking retards. I'm just waiting for the day they crawl back under their rocks with the rest of the vermin.

****************

Ah, nostalgia.
