Can we have a negative recommendation on DU as well as a positive one
Some people insist in posting divisive posts (GD/GDP) when we need unity. I need to yell.

2. Best I could do was a counterpost to the divisive ones.
I got sick of it, too.

Fer chrissakes, I could spin Gore into a Bush enabler a hundred times tighter than the best of the Kerry detractors..... but, would I? Nope. I don't believe he is part of the evil, even when he made naive choices during his years in office. In fact, I would bet that Gore wishes he had done more to work with Kerry back then, now that he knows how evil BushInc is. I wouldn't trash Gore with spin the way they do Kerry.

But, I could.

3. For any and every Democrat being heralded,
the time will come when the battle will be against media, and everyone had better be prepared. Even in the face of the media bias (look at Murtha and now Gore and Clinton), people seem to want to ignore it. When the reaction to anything coming out of the media is to criticize a Democrat, I believe something is being missed. And every time I see Kerry ignored or dissed, I'm convinced some people are in complete denial.

5. You are SO right.

That is the fight. People get it in small bits, but it doesn't seem to me that many have a real grasp of how pervasive a problem this is.

And it's hard - unless you own enough $$$ to buy a tv network - to see how it is to be overcome. Somewhere I read that "people get their news from tv, not newspapers" nowadays. If that is so (and I suspect it might well be), how do we overcome that huge disadvantage??

I'm still in shock that Wolf gave Kerry so much time yesterday, even if it was because he was hoping to stir up a war among Gore, Hillary, and JK.

6. I was surprised too. Another thing about the disadvantage

is how hard it is to permeate the existing structure. And of all people, look who's attempting: Gore. Where does his network stand? I think at this point media is like everything else, locked up by the Republicans, not just the tv stations, but the entire infrastructure. Bush used the telecomm companies to help spy on Americans.

My hubby likened it to a bad western, where the rich land owner (not necessarily bad yet Republican) opens the store, provides services to the community (hard working Democrats who shun the corporate structure and help out their neighbors) and all is going well until the owner gets challenged. Then the owner starts calling in favors, squashing the competition. The community rallies and a little store is opened. It looks like justice, but it really isn't because the rich land owner still owns too much and still has those tendencies. And so it goes until another challenge rears its head.

Moral: Democrats better find a way to permeate the media ownership structure, the ownership structure of every industry, or this beast (the Republicans and their cronies in the media) will just quiet down for a while, let complacency set in, then rear its ugly head again. This is literally a fight for all time.

I'm rambling again, so hope this makes sense.

7. It makes perfect sense.
I think you are exactly right.

But one of the repukes' most effective tricks is outrage fatigue. It's exhausting. Everything they do is horrible, so where do you start? And everyone has their own equally horrible pet outrage. I think JK tries his best to stay on top of everything, but it's too much for one person who has no bully pulpit to shout from. Thus the impression that the dems are disorganized - an impression orchestrated by the repukes themselves. It's so frustrating. I don't think the dems disagree among themselves that much on what they stand for. They seem to be divided more by process issues.

Part of me really wishes they'd put the screws to their membership, filibuster Alito, and if the nuclear option is put in place, just do no business at all. It seems to me that a shut-down congress would be a vast improvement over what we have now.

8. Yes, that's it.
It's like trying to yell above the noise with no bullhorn (forget that other analogy). I see the organization, and I believe it because of the things accomplished last year (ANWR and the Patriot Act at the end).

Alito seems like a perfect opportunity because so many in the public are opposed to it, Republican and Democrats. The Bergen Record (home to a well entrenched GOP contingency) wrote an editorial calling for a no vote, and the largest Republican pro-life group and all the other liberal groups have expressed opposition. Then there is the NSA spying and the signing statements. What more could they need?

4. DU is making me ill - a haven for disruptors and haters of Democrats
The better things are going for Dems the worse it gets.

And apparently it isn't worth alerting on a clearly disruptive/flame bait/made-up post if it contains the word "Kerry" in it.

9. That's how I've always felt...
being a Kerrycrat. The bad days are bad, but the good days are worse. I am so thankful for our little oasis of sanity - and of course, for the Senator, who keeps on fighting for all of us, when a lesser person would say to hell with it.

10. A negative recommendation would be a great thing but ...
you know what would surely happen. The Kerry haters would all come crawling out of their holes and would give a negative recommendation to any and every positive Kerry post. I'm sick and tired of Democrats bashing Democrats on DU period. I'm not saying people shouldn't be able to criticize or analyze what our leaders are saying (that would make us Republicans after all), but I do think if someone is going to make an argument against what someone has said or done it damn well better be an informed argument. Otherwise, they are just trying to stir up trouble.

Some of these people just get tiresome, kind of like an itchy rash. I'm also glad we have this little oasis of sanity - without it I'd say "bu-bye" to DU.
