Kery needs to come back from Switzerland STAT!
He doesn't NEED to be there now. He needs to fight this at home! It can't look like he has phoned it in! I didn't realise he was still there! Or has MSM got this wrong again?

1. Apparently, Kerry calling for filibuster is all over at CNN.
He is going to make an announcement in an hour. There are plenty of threads on GD/GDP about that.

2. Scheduled overseas through at least Sunday

US Senator John Kerry, the Democratic Party candidate at the most recent US Presidential elections, is to visit Northern Ireland later this week to deliver a lecture at the University of Ulster’s Magee campus.

The invitation-only event, which forms part of the Tip O’Neill series of peace lectures, will be on the topic of “ Security in the 21st Century”, and takes place on Sunday 29 January at 7.30pm.

3. It's all over the news now
He's doing just fine. He's at the world econ forum. We all know the man can multitask. He'll be back before a vote on the Senate floor.

4. I think a lot of us were freaking out
Because the sense of urgency sort of lent itself to the idea that the vote was tomorrow morning or something. I literally feel adrenaline running through my body.

5. He looked great on the CNN coverage
Edited on Thu Jan-26-06 05:25 PM by karynnj
They didn't have any real audio from him, but showed him walking from some meeting. He was smiling and waving to everyone waving to him. Also, he is VERY tall (in case this went unnoticed) - even though he was about 4 people back when they started filming, he was the first person I saw.

Their points: The white House says they have 60 people and this is just Kerry positioning himself with his base.

Kennedy is with Kerry and according to "CNN sources", they argued loudy in the caucus for filibuster.

They had their poll from last weekend saying 38% think a filibuster is justified. 48% not justified. (This isn't that bad given press, Kerry and the Democrats need to make the case on unitary President and civil rights>)

6. I just heard that too.
I missed the "arguing loudly " part. Good for them. I could not be prouder of both of my senators.

7. You should be proud of them and proud of your state
for re-electing them oso often. Think how many times you MA people have proudly voted for these two men.

8. Do you think Kerry has the votes?
Heard on cnn that some top democrat says
No Way. Now I'm a nervous wreck.

But - my gut feeling is that Kerry is a very smart man, and he would not have stood up
for this if he didn't.

This is soooo exciting.

Now I know why Specter came out when he did. All making sense now.

9. I don't think they do
From the looks of it, the pugs have enough cloture votes to shut down a filibuster. However, and this is a very important issue; all those Democrats who will vote for cloture will now be on record as not having supported a filibuster. That will assuredly come back to haunt them in the future.
As to JK embarrassing himself - He is only doing what he promised us a long time ago. He promised a filibuster if necessary, and he kept his word.

12. Exactly right.
The stupid thing would be to not stand up for what he believes.

10. tweety bird talking about it now.
Asking Shrum -
Was it smart?

Shrum praising Kerry.

Buchanan says nothing better could happen to the repugs that
there's a filibuster lead by JK.
