At the risk of being Pollyanna, could the Kerry led filibuster have
Edited on Thu Jan-26-06 04:41 PM by saracat
been the Dem plan all along? Could everyone have been pretending? (Except for the few who are confirmed Alito supporter) Could they have merely been keeping this close to the vest? Or do you think the Kerry effort is a Hail Mary pass?

1. Hail Mary
No way to know for sure yet, but I'm not that opitmistic about it going anywhere other than as a protest move.

Hopefully I'm wrong and Kerry has been able to pick up some unexpected votes behind the scenes.

2. If every single American took to the streets with picket signs it might
help the cause along. Where are MoveOn.org and PFAW when we need them? They organized people against the nuclear option last year (groups of us stood holding "save our courts" signs across the country) but they are asking us to write editors to the editor or fax our senators. I don't get it. Shouldn't these groups be organizing to hit the streets in protest? Do they think the cause is just too hopeless or don't enough people even care?

3. True
If every single American was against this they wouldn't even have to take to the streets in order to block Alito.

The unfortuante thing is that there is not enough public opposition. Hopefully this will change as the reasons for the filibuster come out.

5. The unfortunate thing is that there isn't enough
public comprehension.

But then that's the story of politics in America. Sigh.

6. But the American public knows everything there is to know
about the newlywed killed on the cruise ship and the girl still missing from Aruba. There have been hundreds of minutes of coverage on these tragic but unimportant crimes. Now, there a new story of a mother and baby killed in their home outside Boston. (They talked to the Middlesex DA on MSNBC)
