Kerry likes to pull a Columbo.
:-)

You know, that really smart detective who plays dumb, so he lowers people's expectations... then wallops them.

Kerry, I think, has figured out how to turn the MSM spin about his "stiff, wooden" TV persona to his advantage.
He has always surprised the hell out of people when he meets them in person-- there, he radiates warmth and leaves many scratching their heads at what the TV has always told them about him.

And now he's done the same thing with the "Kerry is weak" MSM message. He let it simmer for a while-- then, at the right moment, the moment when it really COUNTED, he absolutely blew it up.

And it's the other Dems who look weak. Even Harry Reid before he got to the right side.

Men like Kerry made me fall in love with politics again.
How can you not be in love with a venue made exciting by such magicians?:)

1. Wow!!!! :-)

That's wonderful.

I don't understand why people are feeling so discouraged - I know the filibuster is unlikely to succeed, but it's so energizing to see him in fighting mode.

Just watched David Brooks and Mark Shields snark on NewsHour about the Davos thing. They also showed McClellan grinning about Kerry being in Switzerland.

I'm thinking, this is just beyond pathetic. For how long do people accept high school name calling ("He looks FRENCH!!!) in place of reasoned debate? I am so sick of hearing every single argument turn into pointing and namecalling. I wanted to grab McClellan and Brooks by their pasty necks and scream, "Grow the f*** up!!!!!"

Sorry, I'll step down now.

6. Hey, I watched that too and it made my blood boil!!!
The thing is, Whometense, the MSM is in a whole different world than us. But there was one moment, where David Brooks admitted something that's big. He said, yes, there is an ideological argument for John Kerry's stance. Since a conservative NYT Op-ed writer said it, we can repeat it. This is, in fact, about something extremely substantive. Once again, Brooks seemed to be more of a help than Shields, who HAD to bring up '08 presidential politics. That made me SOO mad, because he was sidestepping the issue of the day for something so far away.

I might have to take a news/blog break this weekend. I go through extreme highs to having my heart broken seemingly on an hourly basis.

13. I know exactly how you feel
Edited on Fri Jan-27-06 10:31 PM by whometense
A virtual .

I also watched The McLaughlin Group and sat through them yelling over each other for a half hour only to be rewarded with hearing Eleanor Clift talking about '08 politics as well. I need a primal scream smilie. With friends like these...The only person today who did not make me want to tear out my hair was Ed Schultz, bless him.

So I've been watching What Not To Wear instead of keeping up this evening.

Edited to add: I think my elevated blood pressure kept me from hearing that one cogent remark by Brooks. I'm glad to hear he does occasionally have an actual thought.

15. no, keep on ranting!
Tonight's Newshour deserved it. I wanted to punch Brooks in his silly mouth. I mean, how blind can they be? Willfully, that's how they do it--willfully blind.

Our JK stands up there and gives them all Hell today in the Senate, and acts like the brave, intelligent man he is---and contrast that with Commander Clueless standing--no hunching-- in front of the press corps, stammering and ah--ahh--ahh-ing and saying NOTHING AT ALL. If he were a middle school kid standing up in front of the class and acting like that, the teacher would tell him to sit down! :eyes:

I feel like we've all gone through the Looking Glass, or something!

2. But I think the Boston bloggers had something to do with this, too
I think there were many times when he wanted to fight, but didn't think he had anyone to back him up. This time, after talking to you guys, and then posting on dKos, he realized there IS a constituency out there. Obviously, he's the one who's going to take the hits for this, but on the other hand, I think all members of the liberal blogosphere who voiced their opinion and then supported him for this deserve a pat on the back, too.

7. He knows we wuv him! I think people have been craving a hero because
it is a lonely world indeed if we don't have anyone to look up to and believe in, expecially when we are at the mercy of mad King George. I'm so happy for the other folks who are seeing John Kerry for the first time and realizing we do have a champion, after all.

3. This post made me smile.
I totally agree. JK is just so brave and so smart, and instead of fighting a stupid war of identity politics, he shows his true colors when he's fighting for US. And it's awesome.

10. Not a clone, but apparently Davos is closer to Washington than the
Emma E. Booker Elementary School in Sarasota, Florida.

After all, Senator Kerry got back to DC quicker than you know who did when democracy was under attack the last time.

14. It wouldn't surprise me
:) Plus I think he doesn't really just care about what the media says about him. See BCCI for example.

And yes, he made me interested/care about politics again...after a very long drought.

As still I hope...
