* steals JK's ideas on Iran
Edited on Fri Jan-27-06 09:58 PM by rox63
Got this link from Atrios, who has been showing Kerry some love today:

Maybe that Kerry guy knew what he was talking about

1. Check out the first comment though.
Ahh, but the difference is obvious. Kerry came at this as a peacenik dove, cowering at the sight of his own shadow and willing to make a deal with the devil just for one day of peace; while Bush is coming to this as a sterling cowboy, riding high in the saddle and scaring those damn Iranian bastards into submitting to our high-flying agenda.

This isn't about the outcome at all, but about the income. Bush has an awesomely powerful framework to work from, while Kerry's was running scared and shitting itself silly. It's that simple.

"Bush is coming to this as a sterling cowboy, riding high in the saddle ..."

    What the hell is a sterling cowboy anyway? Sounds kind of Brokeback Mountainish to me!

6. What the hell is a "sterling" cowboy anyway?
Must mean the Lone Ranger. (As in Hi-ho "Silver").

Sorry. It's been a long week.

2. One more for the "Kerry was right" list.
Love this comment:

#6

Apparently, Bush "voted" against the Kerry plan on Iran before "voting" for it.

12. Not only will they steal it
Step 2 is they declare it theirs and demand to know what the Democratic posistion is.

3. Unfortunately
Bush has the unique ability to take a carefully thought out Kerry plan of success and muddle it up beyond all recognition too. I have no faith that Bush will be able to manage this. In fact, sometimes I think they just use Kerry's words to rip them of all meaning, and then just go off and do whatever insane thing they want to do.

4. But the good news is...the NY SUN reported it. And CLEARLY
pointed out that it was Kerry's idea. (This is an anomaly for the Sun, isn't it?)

Bush's Iran Plan Echoes Kerry, Baffles Friends

BY JOSH GERSTEIN - Staff Reporter of the Sun
January 27, 2006
URL: http://www.nysun.com/article/26606

President Bush's endorsement of a plan to end the nuclear standoff with Iran by giving the Islamic republic nuclear fuel for civilian use under close monitoring has left some of his supporters baffled.

One cause for the chagrin is that the proposal, which is backed by Russia, essentially adopts a strategy advocated by Mr. Bush's Democratic opponent in the 2004 election, Senator Kerry of Massachusetts.

I agree though, it sucks that * will fuck it up beyond all recognition.

7. "Baffles Friends" ????????
They obviously credit Kerry because they still think it a bad idea - they probably read Corsi's book. (He's been pretty quiet - maybe he'll attack Bush now. I wonder if he's given up on Massachusetts.)

5. It's pathetic that he credits Russia with the idea though
and acts as if it were brand new. This was an EU/ Russian/ sensible people way out of the situation. (I think Hagel mentioned it too) (Wasn't Kerry's statement the basis of Corsi's second anti -Kerry book.)

I wonder if Russert will do his little play the "tape" on this.

That first debate was absolutely brilliant. It's a rare case where time has made it more obvious how smart, thoughtful and well informed his answers were. (They sounded sensible at the time - but since then as Bush has failed almost everywhere, the action proposed by Kerry has been done.) I think this might, in addition to manners and kindness, have been why Lugar spoke of having been proud that someone on his committee was a nominee and he then mentioned that debate. (I think)

Flip-Flopping Fredo

by digby

The Carpetbagger reports that preznit Bush has adopted candidate John Kerry's "ignorant" and "dangerously wrong" proposed policy toward Iran.

And some of the preznit's supporters are all confused:. Apparently they were under the misapprehension that Junior Codpiece had some sort of coherent philosophy...

9. It doesn't matter
stealing an idea means nothing if you don't understand how it was conceived and lack the experience, knowledge and nuanced thinking required to follow through. Bush is a fool.

13. Also discussed elsewhere
I had an item at Democratic Daily:

http://blog.thedemocraticdaily.com/?p=1776

There's also a link there to a moderate site also noting the problem for conervatives who bashed Kerry when he made similar statements.
