Kerry’s nifty idea just in from DavosBy Boston Herald editorial staff
Saturday, January 28, 2006
Sen. John Kerry, who if memory serves used to be a serious politician, seems intent on turning himself into a caricature of what a Democrat ought to be.
This week, too busy attending the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, to participate in the Senate debate on the nomination of Judge Samuel Alito to the Supreme Court, Kerry nevertheless phoned in with a thought. Why don’t the Democrats filibuster the nomination?

http://news.bostonherald.com/opinion/view.bg?articleid=123278 The letter I sent:
Thank you for the lack of sensitivity you have shown to Americans who are deeply concerned about a Judiciary shift to the right. The disrespect of Senator Kerry and Senator Kennedy by some in the media has been nothing short of distasteful. When called on to show a little class, you failed miserably and stooped to lows that cannot by any measure be considered journalistic.
Maybe you should read up on the real reasons people are opposed to Alito’s confirmation instead of belittling those Americans who take the issue seriously:

Senators Kerry, Biden, Chambliss, McCain, Smith, and Sununu.
House reps: Frank, Kolbe, Markey, Shays.
Gavin Newsom, the mayor of San Francisco
Bill Owens, the Republican governor of Colorado
Mark Warner — the Democrat who just got through being governor of Virginia.
Elaine Chao, the secretary of labor
Michael Chertoff, head of homeland security
Alberto Gonzales, attorney general
Robert Kimmitt, deputy secretary of the treasury
Michael Leavitt, secretary of health and human services
and Rob Portman, who started attending Davos as a House rep (Ohio) and is still attending, as U.S. trade rep.
http://www.nationalreview.com/impromptus/impromptus200601250837.aspWas Senator McCain wasting his time? He was still there even after Senator Kerry cut his trip short to lead an effort that Senator McCain should have. Why wasn’t John McCain on the Senate floor speaking out about the signing statement attached to his torture ban, which receive tremendous bipartisan Congressional support, to ensure human rights are not violated in the name of capturing and prosecuting terrorists? He was wasting his time, as you put it, giving a speech in Davos:
US should retain military threat on Iran: McCain

DAVOS, Switzerland (Reuters) - The United States should keep the threat of using force against Iran as a last resort if it wanted leverage in the dispute over Tehran's nuclear program, U.S. Senator John McCain said on Friday.
McCain, a prominent member of U.S. President George W. Bush's Republican Party, told a panel at the World Economic Forum that Iran needed to be referred to the U.N. Security Council, even if no one knew whether sanctions would be imposed.
