Hey, people, just take a second here |
|
Wow! I just am in awe of everything that is going on. You guys rock so much. I kept thinking about Birthday Cards today and people that don't quit and brave and determined people who 'speak truth to power.'
My mind keeps getting stuck at the phrase, 'and we helped.' Cuz, so help me God, I think we did.
OMG!

You guys went to Boston and opened up a window to the blogosphere and netroots-- and let JK know that "we are here!" Haha--like in "Horton Hears a Who"! It's got to be helping energize things. And now the YoungTurks with their "fillibuster-athon"--this is great--and AAR people and others all joining in. It's a "Happening"--I feel like I'm back in the 60s. :hippie:

I never thought I would actually do anything to help this country posting at DU - it was just a nice oasis for the liberal-minded to get together and commiserate. I can't believe I'm a part of something this HUGH!
We flew out to Boston in the middle of a blizzard with the hopes of seeing him. We not only met him, but discussed strategy with him, told him about Daily Kos, told him we were here for him, told him to connect with the grassroots on the net.
I don't doubt for a second that John wanted to filibuster Alito from the get-go, but it must have helped knowing that he'd have WE THE PEOPLE in his corner, because he KNEW he would be alienating every member of the MSM and every snarky, hateful Dem pundit out there. But he charged on because he knows the PEOPLE are with him.
THAT is a patriot, folks. And so are all of you who come here to the trenches every single day to do your part. It's a true honor to fight beside all of you, and no matter how hopeless this battle looks, my heart rejoices because I know you have my back... and so does John. I have yours, too. And we all have his, until the very end.
Patriots all :patriot:

4. Where the heck have you been? |
|
I miss you and Vektor.
Now that you have been hugged by Kerry, helped save the country, you think you can just leave us or something?

5. I've been all over DU the past couple of days, since the filibuster news |
|
I've been posting here and there in the forum over the past two weeks, but alas, Vek and I are both in school getting brutalized by tough semesters. My DU time during the week has been severely curtailed. School sucks :( but only three more semesters to go.

6. That's what makes this story so incredible!!!! |
|
I mean. I'm sitting here, watching Scott McClellan make these snarky remarks from . . . the White House, as in the president. And I know, that my small piece of this, signing a birthday card, was part of the many little things that built the momentum for this incredible event!!
I am truly humbled by you "Boston folks" -- so, like, you basically told him to post a diary on dKos (or DU)? And he goes and does it, and realizes he has a community that will back him up for this seemingly insurmountable cause. And the president's people have to get involved?
I know this sounds odd, but I feel like this is MY filibuster as much as it is anyone's in the Senate. And remember that clause in NATO that France invoked after 9/11? An attack on America, is an attack on all. Well, I'm invoking the JK alliance provision: an attack on him, is an attack on me!!!!!!! That's right, Georgie: NOW it's personal.
Thanks guys again. You are awesome.

7. "...where soldiers like us helped it in the turning." |
|
That's a phrase from JK's 1971 testimony before the SFRC. No, I'm certainly not comparing any of us to the soldiers of Vietnam (that would certainly be disrespectful of all veterans) but the "helped it in the turning" part does keep sticking in my mind.
If the good folks who post on this board (not just the ones who went to Boston) had anything to do with what's been happening lately, then I say that our democracy is not totally dead. There is still hope that WE can change things by working together.
I'll admit though, that I'm just still having a difficult time wrapping my mind around the fact that something we said or did may have made a difference.

8. "helped it in the turning" |
|
That is lovely.
I'm in the same state you are then. I woke up this morning thinking, we gave Senator Kerry advice, and he took it.
Not that it was just us - as others have said, Peter Daou and Dick Bell and Karen haved been trying to get him to see this for a long time. But we may have serendipitously come in at a tipping point, where he was just waiting for that one missing piece of information. It's stunning.

9. You know, democracy rocks |
|
I could get used to this 'petition your government for a redress of greivances' stuff. It's awesome.
I still have the outer envelopes that the Birthday came to me in. I can't throw them away. I just ... can't. Even if we were just the last pebbles that start the avalanche, damn it's nice to be a pebble.
I love all of you. I love the people who were here last Dec. when I came into the forum and I love the people who came in day before yesterday. I am just so blow away by all this.
Maybe we did play a tiny part that 'helped in the turning.' If so, wow, democracy rocks, doesn't it?
