Sweets for our Hero!
Edited on Sun Jan-29-06 10:58 PM by _dynamicdems
Tomorrow when Senator Kerry goes to his office to prepare for his big day, he will have a sweet surprise waiting for him. A few of us chipped in to get some chocolates for JK. (They weren't that expensive and time was of the essence so we didn't post for donations.)

They are from all of us; however, Birthday Bloggers and ALL the Kerrycrats at DU. Just a sweet way to show JK that he has our support and our love, and to thank him for having our back. We sent 3 boxes of Truffles with a request that he share with Uncle Ted (who we love too) whose office is across the hall.

The goodies are being hand-delivered to the Senator's office tomorrow by a very nice person who was kind enough to offer to do this for us.

So when Sen. Kerry is buzzing around the Senate on a chocolate high, we will know we helped contribute to his energy level. We have it on good authority that these chocolates are absolutely decadent.

13. It is pretty much covered this time, but there will probably be other
occasions when we want to send something from the Kerrycrats. This just came up in an e-mail conversation and it took off fast.

I was battling one of the "T" people at Kos. Senators Kerry and Kennedy definitely deserve a sweet surprise. :loveya:

15. Their staff is going to have a tough day of it too, which is why we
sent enough for sharing. The girl who took the order over the phone seemed pleased that the chocolates were going to Senator Kerry. She was surprised to hear Kerry's a chocoholic and I'm sure she picked out the very best truffles to fill the boxes. :)

12. Is it going to have a note on it?
That says thanks, or sweets for our sweet?

This is so cool.
Did you come up with this?? Thanks for doing this, and for thinking about us.

I have good feelings about tomorrow. I got to listen to
about 1/2 hour of Laura Flanders, and she had alot of positive things to say.
Mostly it was about the power that the bloggers have.

Again, thanks!:)

14. See TayTay's post
about what you would say to JK tomorrow...if you knew someone who could get a message to him.

A small gift card went with the chocolates and it said:

"Thank you once again for having our backs. Please share with Uncle Ted. We love him too. Love, your Birthday Bloggers and all the Kerrycrats at DU."

18. What a great idea, DD! Thanks for doing this.
He's getting a lot of support all over the place, but I'm thinking that maybe we still have a special place in his heart . . .

On chocolates, didn't his daughters say that he thinks chocolate and sweets are a food group?? :)

20. Do you think there will be any organizing on dKos?
I was just thinking back to Barbara Boxer when she very directly questioned Condi Rice. She posted on dKos (not sure of the order here), and someone on dKos organized sending her roses for her rose rebellion or something. Just wondering if after this is over, if something of good will for Kerry should be done on dKos (it wasn't a fundraiser, just posted about). Of course, I may be in the minority here, but I think the Switzerland angle is pretty damn funny. What about Swiss chocolates? Okay, maybe not funny, it's just that if you laugh along with the WH joke, it loses its sting (especially if we get the votes!!). Hell, if we get the votes, maybe ALL Democrats should just yodel at the Republicans nonstop!!

22. I'm hoping he'll still have lots of love on KOS after this all plays out.
It is a long shot at best that they get the votes, but if JK somehow does manage a "hat trick" there is still the "nuclear option" (or should we say NookULahr) to contend with. IMHO, I think that would a huge Republican mistake because it would force Democratic unity. Dems usually go off in all directions, but when they unify, it is a thing of beauty.

Showing him appreciation from the KOS community (as well as DU) is a great idea. Personally, I feel that we have so few good leaders that we should show the ones who really stick their necks out for us a little appreciation. TayTay had mentioned a fuel assistance charity that is close to Senator Kerry's heart. Maybe donations to this in his name after the dust settles. Flowers are nice but the Repugs would have a field day with that.

LMAO about Switzerland. It is pretty stupid that they are using this as a talking point at the very time McCain and Sununu are being featured on C-Span as attendees of this important summit! Jeez, do they think the American public is stupid? Do they really think the American public thinks an "Economic Summit" sounds like an exciting vacation. It sounds about as exciting to me as a "Calculus Getway."

27. He cannot accept anything over $50
Edited on Mon Jan-30-06 02:21 PM by TayTay
From lobbyists. I know that. We are a 'grey area' so I have no idea what this means. Usually, you don't send gifts like this to Congress, but, I am not sure how this works. (Barbara Boxer got all those roses in Jan and it was okay. She turned around and donated them to the Walter Reed Hospital.)

Remember how careful JK was to not allow the bar owner to 'buy' him a drink in Dec.?

29. It could be.
Edited on Mon Jan-30-06 02:25 PM by TayTay
I doubt anyone would care about this. It's not like we wanted anything. I just don't know what the technical rules are. (I mean, I don't actually think it's a problem. Again. Barbara Boxer got all those roses and they came to way, way, way more than $50.) Technically, lobbyists can't buy a Cong. more than $50 in lunch more than twice a year. (They blanket can't accept more than $50 at a lunch at all. Except for booze, which doesn't count. So, those were Amaretto chocs, right?)

a great deal of drool on a certain evening in Boston...

We collected enough already, but there will be other occasions!
