Biden doesn't refute Kerry being on ski slopes on Imus
Edited on Mon Jan-30-06 08:45 AM by karynnj
Biden is a jerk. When Imus asked "what do you think of Senator Kerry calling for a filibuster from the ski slope?", he responded, "I'm not going there." Imus then said that he liked Kerry, but no mas (?). Biden downplayed the filibuster, saying he "could" have led one. He thinks Alito has votes. Talked about Unitary president and how dangerous he would be. Mentioned that Alito wasn't sure whether Bush could attack Iraq (I think he meant Iran) without asking Congress.

All Biden had to say was that Kerry was at an economic conference. This is beyond stupid. If he assumes he wins the nomination, one outstanding surrogate for Democrats would be Kerry. He's great on any talk show. That Biden would not counter this is less bad than if he would said the SBVT might be right but is another stab in the back. (Really doesn't sound like a smart way to build his own support.)

He was also so busy talking, he ignored a soft ball question about Bush having travelled all over the country for his soc sec proposals and gained no support. Instead he kept talking about port security.

Anyway letter sent to Imus:

Dear Imus,

I'm writing this because I know that you have been a friend of Senator Kerry's. I loved his December appearance on your show where with your prodding, his sense of humor and affable personality were so different than the image the media crafted for him. On today's show, you asked Senator Biden what he thought of Kerry calling for a filibuster from the ski slopes. Senator Biden knew where Senator Kerry was - and it wasn't the ski slopes.

Senator Kerry was with a bipartisan group of Senators who along with many people from the administration were representing the United States at a prestigious world economic conference. Senator Kerry, who is the ranking member on the small business committee and a member of the Finance committee, has attended and contributed to these conferences for years. You may have noticed his firm grasp of both foreign policy and economic issues in the Presidential debates.

On Wednesday, Senator Kerry was at the Democrat caucus lunch, where he and Senator Kennedy made impassioned pleas to their peers to filibuster. This was Kerry's call to filibuster, prosaically made from the Capital. He later gave his speech against Alito and wrote a diary asking for people to lobby their congressmen to filibuster on a major liberal blog. He and Teresa then left for the World Economic Conference which they attended on Thursday. Senator Kerry also used his cell phone to lobby other Senators to join the filibuster. When Senator Frist, from Davos, called for the Alito vote to be taken on Monday , Senator Kerry flew back to make another very strong speech on the Senate floor.

Whether they ultimately are able to stop Alito, Senator Kerry's efforts seem to be very serious and have pulled in Senators such as Clinton, Reid, Obama and even Biden. Biden's contributions to the hearing were absolutely awful. He wasted precious time that could have been used to get more information on how far Alito would go in taking power from individuals (versus law enforcement and corporations) and from Congress (in favor of a stronger imperial president than has exited in out history). Instead, Biden thought it important that we know he was Irish Catholic so he didn't consider going to Princeton and that his kids go to University of Pennsylvania.

Scott McCellan and the RW talk and cable radio have used the lie that Senator Kerry was on the ski slopes to perpetuate the myth that Senator Kerry doesn't work very hard and to ridicule him. This contrasts with the media's coverage of Senator John McCain, who in a story on his call not to eliminate war with Iran as an option, was said to have been attending a world economic conference with leaders from many countries. They were in the same place: Why was one attending an important conference while the other was at an exclusive Swiss resort?

Senator Biden may think it a good idea to stab a competitor for 2008 in the back, but what he has done in my case is caused me to be an Anybody But Biden voter at an earlier point than I ever was an AB (anyone) voter since I started voting in 1972. If someone other than Kerry wins the nomination in 2008, Senator Kerry will likely be a good surrogate. In addition to the lack of character it shows on Biden's part, diminishing Kerry's credibility unfairly is a very stupid move for any Democrat.

1. he "could" have led one - Why did he not do it?

Not the first time that Biden stabs Kerry in the back. He did so during the campaign about not voting for the 87 billions.

Biden is mad because he did not want to filibuster (working on his moderate image) and that Kerry forced him to do so, as he did for Clinton, but Hillary is able to take that a lot more graciously than Joe.

3. Nice image for Joe - geez
He would rather put his own political ambitions ahead of the good of the nation.

Thanks Joe! I won't ever forget that.

I 'could' have led a filibuster. Yeah Joe, could have and didn't. It's called 'Profiles in Courage' dear, not 'Profiles in Back-stabbing.'

TERRY
(agonized) You don't understand! I could've been a contender. I could've had class
and been somebody. Real class. Instead of a bum, let's face it, which is what I am.
It was you, Charley.
(Charley takes a long fond look at Terry. Then he glances quickly out the window.)

4. Oh my God this gives me deja vu!!
I went on a date with some guy (ACTUALLY, he works at CNN now I think of it), and he never lay a hand on me. Basically, nothing happened, and we didn't go out again. Well, I'm friends with his cousin, and apparently he told him, "Well, I could have made a move". It was a macho thing to say symbolizing nothing. My other friend who was there, rolled his eyes (he's a real lady's man, and if he wants to make a move, he does).

This makes Joe look like a wussy. But wait . . . I thought HE was strong and Kerry was weak. That guy is a 16 year old stuck in a 60 year old body.

7. Maybe he went there looking for Kerry?
Are you sure he went to Davos? He mentioned that he was in an Israli airport with the two newsmen hurt in the ambush. He spoke of talking to them as they prepared for a flight Iraq while he waited for his flight back to the US.

As expected, Biden says he told them how unsafe Iraq was and advised them to stay with the US forces rather than the Iraqis.

10. Biden was there according to this
Edited on Mon Jan-30-06 09:37 AM by ProSense
From a previous post (Also to spotlight another memeber of the losers club, McCain):

And instead of speaking the truth you resort to spreading the distortions, innuendos and rumors put out by certain groups when you fail to mention the other attendees at World Economic Forum in Davos:

Senators Kerry, Biden, Chambliss, McCain, Smith, and Sununu.
House reps: Frank, Kolbe, Markey, Shays.

Gavin Newsom, the mayor of San Francisco
Bill Owens, the Republican governor of Colorado
Mark Warner — the Democrat who just got through being governor of Virginia.

Elaine Chao, the secretary of labor
Michael Chertoff, head of homeland security
Alberto Gonzales, attorney general
Robert Kimmitt, deputy secretary of the treasury
Michael Leavitt, secretary of health and human services
and Rob Portman, who started attending Davos as a House rep (Ohio) and is still attending, as U.S. trade rep.

http://www.nationalreview.com/impromptus/impromptus2006...

Was Senator McCain wasting his time? He was still there even after Senator Kerry cut his trip short to lead an effort that Senator McCain should have. Why wasn’t John McCain on the Senate floor speaking out about the signing statement attached to his torture ban, which receive tremendous bipartisan Congressional support, to ensure human rights are not violated in the name of capturing and prosecuting terrorists? He was wasting his time, as you put it, giving a speech in Davos:

US should retain military threat on Iran: McCain

Fri Jan 27, 2006 09:01 PM ET

By Evelyn Leopold
DAVOS, Switzerland (Reuters) - The United States should keep the threat of using force against Iran as a last resort if it wanted leverage in the dispute over Tehran's nuclear program, U.S. Senator John McCain said on Friday.

I'll never say this out of the Kerry Group because I believe in Dem unity, but just between us: Biden is a major asshole.

If anyone has a photo of Sununu and or McCain in Davos (especially if they look like they are having fun) please post it. I'd sincerely like to post those all over the net with some very harsh comments.

Ditto with all the Bsh carbonate members who also attended. Let's get a photo of Chertoff skiing. More Repugs attended this thing than Dems, but you don't hear about that.
