1. Save yourself the depression
Truly. If you drink, have one. The first to drown your sorrows, the second as a toast to the real heroes who actually fought. In my estimation there were really only two, and a whole lot of American patriots who care enough to pay attention.

12. I'm not sad, I'm PISSED!
From now on if any Democrat wants a dime from me they are going to have to get it from John Kerry. I'm not donating a cent unless it is to KAP or JohnKerry.com. The only fundraisers I'll attend are those who feature Senator Kerry, Kennedy, Boxer and a couple of others.

13. No, I don't think so...

If he actually abstained on purpose, then he came closest of ALL Republicans to supporting our efforts on the filibuster! And it had to be directly because of our contacting him and talking to him about it. He actually has shown some serious concern regarding executive powers and this gives me hope that maybe he will actually follow through on it. Chances are, he will still vote for Alito, given the political climate of Nebraska. He's already getting criticism from the RW'ers for the few times he's gone against Bush. I had a friend complaining to me a few months ago about how he's "moving to the left." (I've kept a low profile on my own political views, so most of my friends don't know how far left I actually am. But that is slowly changing...) Anyway, given the amount of pressure he's under from the right, if he abstained on purpose, I'm thrilled and impressed with even that small amount of support shown for us. It maybe won't affect the outcome, but it's more than any other Republican gave us today, and a darn sight better than 19 Democrats.

On edit: Welcome to the JK group, DemDiva! You'll like it here. Everyone is so nice.

:hi:

7. Ensign in Car Accident
In case anyone didn't hear ... Senator Ensign was in a head on collision this morning is Las Vegas. But, appearantly he's going to be ok. Definitely NOT the way I would have wanted to win this one if it came down to one vote.

11. Woo-hoo!!! I missed that, too!

Oh my goodness...I can't believe Hagel abstained! Dare I hope it was because of those of us who called (numerous times) to beg him to? If so, I'm so proud of him! Wow. If he didn't miss the vote because of some other emergency, if he really abstained, then he deserves the same thanks as those who voted no, in my opinion. In that case, he listened and did more for us than Ben Nelson, the "Democrat," did.

This, actually, cheers me up quite a bit because it gives me hope that maybe I and the others who contacted him WERE heard after all.

8. Thanks for posting. I am so frustrated at those who were
afraid to vote the way they should have that I am going to send them all a thanks for nothing e-mail.Reid and Biden are getting special letters. And I am done with the cable news media unless I know for sure Kerry is going to be on. He is still my hero.

14. Okay, so now we know who can be trusted. The Dems who voted for
cloture just painted a huge, red slash across their faces.

Time now to fight like hell. Is there any organization arranging protests tomorrow?

16. Well, we could look at it this way, Kerry and Kennedy pulled 25
no votes out of a group of 44 Democratic senators, thats a majority of votes. He/we convinced some to come on board and they will not regret it. I just read over the weekend a few states have ready to go legislation on abortion restrictions directed at the Supreme Court. The shit is going to hit the fan soon enough, if you will excuse the expression.
