SFRC Hearing on Thurs. Feb 9th, 2006 |
|
New Initiatives in Cooperative Threat Reduction --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
HEARING before the
COMMITTEE ON FOREIGN RELATIONS UNITED STATES SENATE ONE HUNDRED NINTH CONGRESS SECOND SESSION
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Thursday, February 9, 2006
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Time: 9:30 AM Place: 419 Dirksen Senate Office Building Presiding: Senator Lugar Witness: The Honorable Robert Joseph Under Secretary for Arms Control and International Security Department of State Washington, DC
*******************
Oh goodie! I do hope someone intelligent shows up to talk about how to actually reduce threats to the US. Someone who just came back from a trip to the volatile Middle East. Someone who can ask intelligent and probing questions. Sigh! Then again, Sen. Barfbag will be there, so the comdey element will also be pretty high as well.

Wonder if it'll be on C-Span 3? I will have to clear my calendar next Thu morning. Thanks, Tay.

Sen. Stevens hearings lately on telecom and content are a slog. (Decency hearings? Must-carry hearings. ZZzzzzzzzzzz. I know you have to watch this stuff GV, but, ZZZzzzzzzzzzzz.)
I think this has the potential to be a very interesting hearing. We do need to talk about threat reduction. Sen. Kerry just got back from a visit to Pakistan at the time of that missile strike that didn't kill Zawahiri. Hmmmmm. JK also was in Afghanistan and Iraq and might have some, ahm, points to make in talking with the UnderSecretary for Arms Reduction. I think this could be a goodie.
And why the hell hasn't Lugar asked for Condi to come back. It's been 4 months since she last showed up to lie to the Committee. I miss her and she needs to come back soon. I love her little dialogues with Sen. Barfbag. They are so not informative and so not relevant to anything actually going on in the world. What's not to love? (Oh, and send Negroponte on over too. His testimony today at the Sentate Intelligence Comm was very interesting. I would love to see him talk with Sen. Kerry, especially considering their prior history in foreign affairs.)

4. Actuallly, I can't wait. |

I love to watch JK question people. Better than floor speeches, IMO. As for the telcom stuff, much of it is bs, but I gotta keep up. I actually had people laughing (AT me) the other day when I pointed out that something we were discussing wasn't in the 1992 Cable Act, but was instead in the FCC guidelines.
Oh well, they didn't laugh when they found out I was right. They did look at me funny, though.
I'll try to watch the SFRC hearing if it's on C-Span. You're right, it's good TV.

5. It really is. I love C-Span |
|
You know all those people who look at you funny when you say you watch C-Span. They are thinking, 'Yeah C-Span is what I put on when I have insomnia and want to go to sleep.' Well, sometimes it is dull as dishwater, but other times it rivals the best soap opera/dramas ever. The SFRC hearings in which the Dems get to question actual Bush Admin perople are riveting, because they happen so infrequently. Condi does think she is above answering to mere Senators, so when she does deen to show up, it's a big deal.
I have found myself answering something in detail too and got 'that look' of, oh no, she's turned egghead on us. I love that look.
