Sign SWIFT-BOAT RESPONSE PETITION
Edited on Wed Feb-01-06 10:24 AM by demdiva
Please sign this petition to protect our veterans who run for office!
http://www.thepetitionsite.com/takeaction/681546983

Current Signatures: 500+
Goal: 100,000

Here's the explanation text:

We’re all aware of the recent attacks on Rep. John P. Murtha’s (D-PA) war record. Band of Brothers has been chartered on the very principle that’s under siege here: that veterans who served this country diligently should not have their war records questioned and attacked by partisan entities through the press without a watchdog ready to bite them back when they’re out of line. Thanks to a transparently opinionated and politically motivated attack, a lot of American viewers, readers, and voters now believe that John Murtha, a man who put his life in harm’s way in defense of our country, did not get wounded enough to deserve the purple hearts he was awarded. Help us put an end to this garbage-campaign and send the RNC a message.

Here's the petition text:

Swift-Boat Response

Mr. Mehlman:
We ask that you and your minions please honor our veterans and that you immediately denounce and retract the recent attacks made on Rep. Murtha. We have over 50 veterans running for office in 2006 with millions of supporters and we will not allow ANY veteran to be persecuted by the Republican attack machine.

Regards,

3. What's gotten me lately
is listening to my Republican friends cry about the smearing of Alito. Oh, the horror.

So much worse, apparently when it's a Republican. Smearing Dems, on the other hand, is A-OK. I could slap some of them.

4. It's kind of amusing - as it was so much milder
In the sense that Democrats simply said that he belonged to a club that was for discrimination years ago - NOBODY made the leap to say that he endorsed those values. They asked to see the records which ultimately showed that he wasn't active. The media adored him and derided the Senators for even asking.

Compare to Kerry. They accused him of almost everything bad a soldier do. Kerry showed the media 140 pages of records, more pages and more detail than any previous candidate ever put out. (By a pretty private man). The media gave, if anything more credance to the SBVT than to Kerry, his crew and the Navy - with some saying with that many charges, something has to be true. Where there's smoke there's fire. I saw no editorials in the MSM decrying the despicable purple heart bandages. I guess though it didn't count how much it hurt Teresa, Alexandra and Vanessa.

5. And yet they won't let it go that Byrd was in the KKK
if past affiliations don't matter, then why come at Byrd about that one, esp. if he's apologized?

I don't even know if Byrd was an active participant, sheets and all.

7. Feel free to ignore me; I'm feeling disgruntled. But...
... where was all this righteous outrage among liberals when Kerry was being smeared last year? (NOT you guys - this group is full of some of the only people Kerry can reliably count on.) But where was the outrage from all the other elected Democrats and the liberal pundits when they spread their evil lies about Kerry? What they are doing to Murtha is wrong, but where was Murtha when Kerry was being smeared? Where were all the other Dems, vets or no?

This just pisses me off.

Again, feel free to ignore me. I'm kinda bent out of shape right now anyway.

14. Ignore you? Hey -
I agree with you 100%

It really pisses me off.
Kerry was left on his own throughout the whole campaign!

Whenever bsh was attacked, the whole Republican army came out in full force.

Who came out for Kerry? US! The bloggers. Where were the dems?
They're still there, the same ones who went around in the msm saying that
we don't have enough votes for a filibuster. I am pissed. We are never going to
win elections or gain seats in Congress unless we get new leaders with strong
voices in our party. grrrrrr
