1. I went to see Bill Moyers speak recently. |
|
He was riveting. Spoke about the day JFK was assasinated, the bush* administration, and about how we're all connected. If you ever get a chance, don't pass it up.

3. "Thank and Spank." Cute. |
|
Oh, wait, except it unfortunately minimizes what the sick assholes who facilitated Alito's confirmation did. Nice.
Spank.
Sure.
With a crowbar, maybe.

4. Also, maybe 3 tiers would be more appropriate |

Reid, Biden and others did vote for cloture but only after talking in such a way that they damaged the effort. Biden, by saying only for 1 vote immediately destroyed the value of his vote.
All the others, who used their TV time to question the lateness of the effort or its chance for success rather than to restate succinctly the reasons they gave in their Senate speeches played into the Republicans game. Obama had it half right, they needed to win over the country on the issue - rather than making this observation and critiquing the effort - He should have said something to the effect "Whether the effort started late or not, Alito .....(continue with good short arguments). Imagine what Kerry (or Kennedy) could have done with those same minutes.
By simply repeating some of the RW themes - that this was a quixotic (a word I heard more that week than I have heard it in my live - coincidence?) futile effort that could hurt the Democrats, they actively discouraged anyone on the fence and they most certainly didn't educate the public.
I never heard the Republicans whine about each other in this way. Instead of having another of the endless discussions on framing, they need to have an expert of some kind - show them how they often do this and how counter productive it is.
