We are being Googled... or at least MSNed
Edited on Tue Feb-14-06 10:42 PM by _dynamicdems
Our posts are now being broadcast out of DU. I'm not sure when this happened because I tried to find our posts before and nada. Maybe it's due to the upgrade Skinner did on Superbowl Sunday. All I know is, our stuff is out there now.

http://search.msn.com/

Search on these just for starters:

Intrepid Fallen Heroes Kerry Group
Kerry Group
John Kerry photo thread

EDIT: Many of our screen names are coming up in MSN too.

I thought _dynamicdems wouldn't come up with my posts because of the underscore. Wrong.

Just a few that I checked and found came right up:

Wildeyedliberal
Littleclarkie
Whometense

1. I'm not sure I like our posts out there for all to see and read.
It was nice knowing we had some privacy in the forum and could feel free to post our opinions.

5. The privacy was nice. It was always a public forum and anyone could be
browsing and reading our posts, but finding out that we are broadcasting out "there" is a little jarring.

6. Me too, but it was more the feeling of safety than actual safety, kinda
like an Ostrich with his head in the ground. Everything we say is archived and it is all viewable by anyone who wants to read it. However, this does feel different. It was a little shocking. But it can be a good thing. Now people will know there is a Kerry Group.

9. I had the same initial experience
It's so comfortable in this group, that I've said things I likely wouldn't write elsewhere. It's sort of the feeling that was expressed when a non-Kerry person comes in to question our right to mention any politician other than Kerry.

But, on the other hand, there are so many good knowledgeable posts that list what Senator Kerry has said or done, all from a positive view point that it's good if any happen to come up in a google (or MSN) search - better than if they get a huge number of FR or other slime locations. One major topic recently was that the Democrats have a smaller megaphone. Taking this a step further, Kerry has a smaller megaphone than Senator Clinton and her husband (though he arguably uses it better).

Every time we've posted over on the big forums, it has been to counter lies or spread information on what Senator Kerry is doing. This will just mean that we (anonymously) will be seen by more people than we had anticipated. In a way, we're helping change perceptions of Kerry in a positive direction. Anyone viewing the group would see that there are far more threads with intelligent discussions on Kerry's position on major issues than there are threads attacking Bush or other politicians or threads describing Kerry's looks.

Even the picture threads, dispel many RW lies. A vain, selfish person is unlikely to connect so well with young children and the fact that he either puts the kid at his level or goes to theirs is in almost every picture. The beautiful pictures of him with Teresa are 180 degrees from anything printed during the campaign.

So, at the end, I'm reminded -again- that I am in public, but I think anyone linking here after getting an MSNBC link, if they played around here at all would find very positive information about a very good person and public servant - and that IS consistent with the stated goal of this group. (As to me - I will probably just try to avoid sarcasm - no one here would take a sarcastic negative comment any way other than intended, but this points to a larger audience where some might not look enough to see the context. (Oh, I also think I will now start to always use spell check!)

3. i think most who will be interseted would be other Kerry supporters
especially with this mostly being positive about Kerry. at best it might get those who are just learning about things the chance to view a place with positive news including personal experiences about Kerry.

7. Yes, it can be a good thing for Senator Kerry.
We can use this to our advantage to promote things he's working on and viewpoints of the senator's that don't get widely broadcast. When I first started posting here, I was dissapointed that the group was pretty obscure and was not known of outside of DU. However, I soon started to feel like this was a haven and was pretty happy that all of our posts weren't out there. Going forward, with the knowledge that this stuff is searchable, changes the dynamic of this group for me. Just a bit.

This chatty stuff will never come up unless someone searches on our screen names. Mine is pretty searchable. Others are not.

What will come up is stuff where you reference certain key phrases or words in the same sentence as the senator's name. This we can use to send out positive messages about his work and also to recruit other JK survivors adrift and alone out there in cyberspace. One thing to note: "JK" is probably not going to be very searchable, whereas the senator's name is.

10. All our names are searchable -
The saving grace is that no one who hasn't already seen are names will randomly say - I think I'll search Karynnj, -dynamicdems or Tay Tay. As you say, where we may come up is if someone is looking for an obscure bill and we happen to have the name in a post and it gets picked up. This is all for the good. I agree that a search would clearly use Kerry not JK.

4. does this mean we have to hold down our, ahm, exuberance
for the taller Senator from Massachusetts? Hmmmm, that would not be good.

In light of this news, we need to immediately double our quota of pic threads. That'll show 'em.

8. You knew this would happen, didn't you?
As I recall, didn't you mention the possibility of our posts getting out there in a conversation a while back? It wasn't happening then, but you must have looked into your crystal ball because WE OUT THERE NOW! LOL!

Photo threads will pull in lots of people who like JK, but we need to use keywords to draw people to threads we want to come up in a search. For example, instead of "Friday Photo Thread" if we put up "sen.XXXX XXXXX, photos photos photos lots of photos." Okay, crappy example but you get the drift.

12. Maybe we shouldn't post a thread with the opening words:
John Kerry, XXX, photos. On second thought, maybe we should and then post lots of juicy legislative tidbits in the thread.

14. The threads of pictures with kids, animals, Teresa, his family or
working the Senate also have merit too. The Senate ones may need context. For example, the photo of Kerry alone questioning people when he was working on BCCI - shows a huge amount of strength. Kerry was willing to very methodically and professionally go forward doing what was right even though he was alone and no one would condemn him if he would have just rolled things up to free up time to do something that would win him political brownie points.

The others especially when massed together as they have been show more than words. Why do you think the mainstream media had very few good John and Teresa pictures, when it was clear after the campaign when some photographers had their photos on web sites, that there were many pictures where they seem to be a couple very attached to each other. There were few pictures in the MSM that humanized him at all. I remember mainly seeing a news show speak of Butlers' book and they showed some pictures. I know what they were afraid of ... he's actually likable.

15. Holy toledo -- there is an evil version of me on the Net!
I googled beachmom John Kerry and there were some entries of mine but then there was a hit to a "Left Wing Lunacy Museum" site, with a Beachmom (my evil right wing twin) moaning about the politically correct lib teachers. Her name came up again as a right winger on another page. Scary, googleland is. Scarey indeed!!!

In fact I tried Karennj - and it was taken, so I changed the spelling to a spelling I used for a week in high school - until I turned in an essay and my English teacher counted it as a spelling error.

20. Oh for goodness sakes. Welcome MSN lurkers
Edited on Wed Feb-15-06 09:57 PM by TayTay
Come on in. (Wipe your feet. This is a classy joint here.) Welcome to the JK Group on DU. We refer to ourselves as 'the sane people' on DU and the lib-web in general. (It's a DU thing. Stick around long enough and you'll see why.)

We like, love, deeply appreciate, speculate about and, in some cases, long for John Kerry, the taller Senator from Massachusetts. (Some of us are boycotting the meaningless term Jr. because Senators like Dole and Inhofe are Sr. Senators and they have been in the Senate for a lot less time than John Kerry and are wicked annoying to boot.) Where was I? Oh yeah, the sane people. We try not to get hung up on stupid and meaningless things that seem to roil the rest of the lib-web because they are, ahm, stupid and meaningless in our humble opinion.

We like to talk about Sen. Kerry, stuff that has something to do with Kerry, stuff that used to have something to do with him, but no longer does but, for some reason or other is still damn interesting and stuff that we think might have something to do with him if the wind is blowing just right. And sometimes we like to just talk about what's going on for the weekend, cuz everyone has a weekend and it's damn interesting sometimes.

We love 'pic threads' here. Cuz they are really cool and sweet and make us go 'awwww', which is an outcome greatly to be desired. (I don't know why. We are lib, let it go at that.) This group has been around for awhile, long enough to become a community and it shows. And yes, we have met Sen. Kerry and he was wicked nice to us and we sort of liked him even more after that. (Not that we're easy or anything.)

So, that's about it in a nutshell. Any questions?
