John Kerry Delivers the Democratic Hispanic Radio Address on Immigration Reform
April 1st, 2006 @ 8:06 am pst

The following is the text of the Democratic Hispanic Radio Address today, delivered by Senator John F. Kerry, as prepared for delivery and received by The Democratic Daily:

“Good morning. I am Senator John Kerry from Massachusetts.

“This week Senate Democrats won an important victory toward comprehensive immigration reform that honors the contributions of immigrants and provides real security for America.

“The Senate Judiciary Committee approved a bi-partisan immigration bill that: 1) provides a path toward citizenship for undocumented immigrants, 2) re-unites families, and 3) strengthens border security.

“Democrats made sure that the Dream Act was included, so that young people who have spent most of their lives in the United States, who believe in our country, who have stayed out of trouble, can have a chance at a higher education. We also recognize the hard work of those who labor in our fields and we insisted on an initiative that would allow more than a million agricultural workers to earn a path toward legalization.

2. Don't feel bad
I do not know Spanish either. When I went to a Catholic high school back in the 60's they only offered 2 languages French and Latin, I took 2 years of each. All 3 of my kids can speak Spanish and understand it pretty good, I know if it was available way back when I would of taken it instead of Latin.

I did understand the last part. Thank you very much Senator John Kerry, Mass. LOL

Great Spanish lesson. I knew a lot more Spanish a few years ago, I'm rusty now.

14. I agree.
I loved hearing him speak in Spanish. Great language for his voice. (I can't remember hearing him speak French, I think there have only been snippets, not prolonged addresses.)

15. I heard him speak French
...when he was interviewed by French TV during the Tour de France and he has almost no foreign accent (much less than me LOL). My daughter who speaks Spanish listened to the radio address and said it was really good. What's striking is that he has no American accent at all in both languages. He doesn't sound exactly like a native speaker in French or Spanish but you would never recognize him as an American if you didn't know. I really admire him for this ability. As you know I was born in Germany and only came to France as a student. My French is very good but I never totally lost my German accent. And my daughter is still teasing me about my accent when I speak French or English.

16. Remember the clip from "Inside the Bubble"
where he was speaking Italian to himself while waiting to be interviewed in the locker room? That was hot too.
