So, I'm thinking of putting up a recap post |
|
Edited on Fri Jan-21-05 09:47 PM by TayTay
of the hearings this week. (Hey, there is a blizzard coming in tomorrow and I feel a recap coming on.) Anybody want to see some wonky threads about the state of the world, the state of foreign policy and our forum analysis of what the hell the Foreign Relations Committee was grilling Condi about the other day. (JK was awesome. I was in Wonk Heaven all day, then watched the Kerry vs. Condi Show at night. Very impressive. I, ahm, tivoed it. I told you I was a wonk.)
It's winter. It's 4 friggin degress here. I saw I wonk out.
What say you, care to join me in a policy discussion?

I am actually going to do this tomorrow.
You need to select a major university and arrange to go there in order to talk about pot. Your time will come.
Where are you thinking of going?

Well, for two years anyway. Great school. The very spot for a young Democrat to co-habitat with others of a like mind.
Seriously good school. You would love it. It's very exciting to be interested in politics and history and to go to DC. You could intern for a congresscritter and have fun. Wonderful.

Honey, I have worked with complete idiots who went to major univesities and I have worked with near geniuses who never went to college at all. It's not the school, it's the person who goes there. You can pick up a lot at Comm. college and get some of the necessary freshman classes out of the way. Use the time to grow up, have some fun, figure out what you want out of life. And don't be in a damn hurry. Life is too short as it is.
Learning is a lifetime avocation. College is just teaching you the template.

We all wish we had done things differently. Don't spend to much time with regrets. You are who you are because of all the things that go on in your life, good and bad. In the long run, it doesn't really matter when your brain 'woke up' and decided that it was time to get to work, it matters only that it eventually did. It truly is never too late.

has been, "The true genius suceeds even in what he despises.", I am no genius because of that. I wish, I could have tried harder when I was younger.

We are getting pounded right now. It's 7 below (windchill of something rediculous below, like 20 or something--it's windy), and it took us 20 minutes to get home from the grocery store which is 1 mile away. The car was like a sled, impossible to stay on the road. The visibility is fine, if you like looking out and seeing nothing but white, and it's coming down like crazy.
I can't believe it's 70 degrees anywhere on this planet right now. Welcome to Ice Planet Hoth. I do love Rochester, but it's easier to remember that in May than in January.:)

Wind chill of -5, 35 mph gusts of wind. I almost slid off an interstate exit ramp.
Fun times. Or not.

I'm glad you're ok, though. Back on your favored computer now? I was supposed to go do a bunch of stuff today, but after the grocery trip we decided nothing on the list was really worth risking it.

Yeah, man, you should've waited till after so you could've remembered more. You WERE pretty funny last night, though :P
Amazingly enough, I've avoided intoxication at college so far. Not really lack of desire, but more out of a lack of circumstances. I don't really know many people (and very few who are older than me) and I don't have anyone to go out with. Meh. It's not a big deal, but people think I'm a puritan when I'm really not. Ah well.

because it was so funny. As I say, I am best when I dont try to be funny. You know it was sorta of pitiful, because when I was stoned on thursday, I was trying to control myself but I would stutter and say stupid stuff.

17. I grew up about 20 miles south of Ithaca |
|
so I can relate...
It's beautiful in the summer - but those winters can really suck...
Weird thing about Colorado, especially the front range - we'll get a really nasty storm every once in a awhile - but we'll also get 70 degree days in January, where the sky is blue from horizon to horizon and the air smells just like spring.

well, at least you can send your total empathy. :) Actually, it's up to 6 degrees, and the windchill is to 11 below, so it's better. Tomorrow though, the wind will be a concern, it's supposed to gust up to 50 miles an hour. The good thing is, when it gets to 25 degrees, it will feel warm.
Colorado sounds beautiful. I've never been there.

I can totally do wonkish postings if need be. Hard to believe, perhaps, from that other board, but I have many sides.
I would very much like to believe that the Dems are going into full attack dog mode this term, and I hope that's one of your conclusions.

Also, I have an idea for a project I'm gonna do: somebody on another board was challenging me to come up with "what has John Kerry done since BCCI?" so I'm going to put together a sort of a JK resume for easy pasting into a post for these freepers. I'll start with angrydem's index and cull out a list, then post here, then you all can tell me if I missed anything. It'll be a few days till I have time to get to it though.
