2008 selector - with a problem
Edited on Tue Apr-18-06 10:04 AM by karynnj
This is up on DU-P. I actually got Kerry 100% (shock shock)

http://www.selectsmart.com/plus/select.php?url=08frontrunners

But there is a problem, after you get your results, you can click to get the underlying information. There is a problem. They list Kerry as a hawk. I thought it was the IWR, but they have Edwards as a dove. Kerry was pretty clearly anti-war, while Edwards was still defending it. They have an email, so I emailed them on this plus their "not knowing" Gore's position on defending constitutional rights.

As these things circulate it would be great if we could get them to change this.

1. Thanks for pointing that out!
I think sending an e-mail is good. Kerry has never supported preemptive war.

3. I had pointed it out on DU
and actually got a few people suggesting emailing them - I hadn't seen the email link before.

The odd thing is that it doesn't impact my results. I agree that Kerry "Mr International law, Geneva conventions etc" would never ever agree with Bush's pre-emptive war doctrine and he said so in the debates. I was horrified that the people doing it could get the former Presidential candidate wrong. I do suspect they have an agenda - I did say I would love to send it to people - but not with those errors.

2. Kerry only came up third on my list
Edited on Tue Apr-18-06 10:36 AM by rox63
with 92%. My list had Feingold (100%) and Kucinich (98%) above him.

I think they've got it wrong, especially on matters of war and peace. And I definitely intend to vote for Kerry if he jumps into the 2008 race.

4. How did you answer the first question?
I suspect that you took the anti-war answer - which is pulling directly from this info where your Senator is labelled a HAWK. (Did you ever expect that?) It will likely direct a lot of people to Feingold that should be Kerry. (My candidate for agenda)

5. Whatever the agenda,

it's strange that they have Edwards as dove and Kerry as hawk. Kerry is not a pacifist, but he is not a hawk, and neither is Feingold. He, and everyone in the Senate, except Craig (R-ID)and Helms (R-NC), voted for the 2001 authorization to use force.

7. I got the same score as you
Except Kerry at 93%. But I thought the questions were rather lame, with not enough nuance. So it's just a quick take, and yes if they think JK is a hawk they war wrong! He's a "tough dove". ;)

8. Kerry was second on my list with 99% and Kucinich was 100%.
Go figure, I would never of even considered less than 100% for me in regards to Kerry. Oh, Biden was the third closest. Ha Ha!

6. I noticed the inaccuracies there too.
I was thinking though, this poll might be designed this way to leave a certain impression and obtain a certain result.

9. I think so too
which is why after taking the advice on DU-P and emailing them - I posted it here. I doubt people vote for the computer generated result - but I think that the chart may be used. That Kerry's history is pretty well known might mitigate the importance of it. I also don't think Edwards IS a dove - he really was pretty hawkish - I know he thinks Iraq was wrong, but he didn't (to my knowledge) say anything about war in general.

10. Kerry 100% - Feingold 99%
Kucinich at around 93%. I noticed that war result too and thought it was strange. I emailed them, haven't heard anything back yet.
