Transcript of 1971 interview up at We Love John Kerry
The incredibly hard-working and dedicated Democrafty has actually transcribed the entire 1971 interview Whome recommended in comments on the previous entry. Long post, full of JK goodness.

Have fun, everyone going to the speech tomorrow!

1. Oh, you are the BEST!!!
My favorite part (aside from this: "And even if you're not a Kerry fan (and if you're not, I am beginning to lose my patience with you)":

Groebli: Has anyone called you a hypocrite? Because one wonders when you - as a lieutenant in the navy serving in Vietnam - when you had a moment of truth.

    * I’ve been called a lot worse than a hypocrite. Sure they have. Of course they have. And they do call me worse things, for a lot of other reasons.

For some reason, that just tickled me. Probably because it reminds you of how long he's been dealing with insults. Man, does he have a thick skin. I would have been demolished 35 years ago, crept into a cave, and stayed there, shivering under a bearskin.

2. Me too! I think of that stuff sometimes
and then I'm not surprised at all that Kerry would think of taking another run at the White House. It's not like he's had bad things done/said to and about him before.

3. Also the very sudden half smile that was on his face
when he said it. He really is an exceptional person. (Don't you wish a huge number of "he didn't fight (stand up etc)" people could be miraculously placed in his shoes for even a few hours in that time frame - they clearly couldn't have handled it. )

4. Yes, I do wish it.
Every time I read one of those posts. I think that's why the "spineless" thing makes me so angry. I doubt any of them could even have walked ten feet in his shoes. I loved that little smile - it said to me, "oh, you think being called a hypocrite is bad????????"

Not to mention the sympathy I feel for his first wife, who seems to be a quiet and retiring soul, and who had to deal with rocks whizzing by her baby's head.
