28. No, it's actually pretty nice
We did have that nasty storm a couple of weeks ago though which caused a landslide and closed down the 101 so a lot of people couldn't get to Ventura or into Santa Barbara.

31. were people ok
from the landslide? I guess we're actually pretty lucky that we get blizzards. I mean, I'm used to it, because I've lived here forever, but it seems like other stuff is worse. Earthquakes, hurricanes, tornadoes. We do get a tornado here and there, but they aren't big, and they don't happen often.

32. No actually
Something like 10 people died. Maybe more. It was awful. It's not the first time it's happened to that little town either.

33. that is so sad
it's terrible when something huge happens, like the tsunamis. The number of people is staggering, and horrifying, but the 10 people that lost their lives there don't get mourned by everyone. It's almost like it has to be a certain level of tragedy to make national news. I will hold the families of those people in my thoughts, too.

34. Yeah
It hit so close to home. It was horrible and there is always the reminder when you drive past the town because it's right off the highway. I hold those people in my thoughts as well.

Holy crap, Kleeb. You went to a war protest in DC--you were a voice (albeit a slightly slurred one;-) ) for democracy.

23. I wasn't sure if you were going
I know you were waiting to see if everything worked out. We're relieved to have you back safely. I plastered to CSPAN2 for hours--they covered it. I turned it off and didn't know there was trouble until later on DU.

25. I'm here
We just got back from two days in Chicago--anniversary--and the weather was terrible. It's a white-out--horizontal winds from all directions. Then we got home and found six inches of snow in the driveway!

27. thanks!
It was a snowy day just like this when we got married, actually.

It's really hard to think of places to go in January--a reason NOT to get married then! The only worse day to get married is Feb. 14th, like some friends of ours did: they can never get reservations for dinner!
We went to Chicago, stayed at a hotel, and went to La Strada for dinner. Went to two smaller museums this time, for a change: the Contemporary Art Museum and the National Vietnam Veterans Art Museum (my idea, naturally :)) All the artwork there was done by Vietnam vets. Powerful stuff.

29. that sounds awesome...
I wonder if you unknowingly bumped into my sister. She was going to Chicago this weekend, too. She was going to see a play, but I'm not sure where she was staying and where they had dinner.

I got married on the only sunny day in a very rainy July. My wedding was outside in a gazebo. We lucked out, the sun came out when I starting walking down the aisle. It actually turned into a beautiful day. Most of our anniversaries have been pretty fair-weather, too.

Sounds like a wonderful trip, despite the weather, though. The Vietnam Vet's museum sounds amazing.
