Kerry on Environment, from 2004
I was spurred by politicasista's post earlier to track down the references for some of the points I made about Kerry's environmental record, and stumbled across this:

Environment clearly divides Bush and Kerry
Senator's record sits well with conservation groups
October 7, 2004

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2004/10/07/MNG31950V01.DTL

BEST quote:

"George Bush is the kind of politician who would cut down a tree and then climb on its stump to give a speech about conservation," Kerry said.

Oh but wait...I thought Kerry never said anything pithy in 2004....I always heard he was too "nuanced"....and I heard that he never said anything about the environment! So why is SF Chronicle making this stuff up? :eyes:

1. What an awesome line
Why didn't the media show 'pithy' Kerry more often. Great line.

5. further proof that the consultants got to him
He was a lot more strident in his language earlier, during the primaries. I guess that was the conventional wisdom--go moderate for the general election--but I'm not so sure that was the best advice.

7. especially in a case like this
where the comment didn't cross the line into rude because it was true. It also showed a lot of Kerry's personality.

He's so dead-on here. This actually sounds like something * would do.
