Okay, on the other thread on the stupid Spanish Nat'l Anthem outrage, I had ventured into Freeperville. Curiosity got the better of me. I tooled around a little, and found this Kerry story. I refuse to link to them (DU can sue me, but I'm NOT linking to that site), and instead will just show it to you. It's unbelieveable:

Semi-News: Kerry Says Bush Stifling Dissent
AZCONSERVATIVE ^ | 28 Apr 2006 | John Semmens

Posted on 05/01/2006 4:37:45 PM PDT by John Semmens

Senator John Kerry (D-Mass.), in an address to a standing ovation at Boston's historic Faneuil Hall, said that those who disagree with the Bush administration's policies are being stifled. "Some, like Cindy Sheehan, have been arrested," said Kerry. "One man has been shot by Vice-President Cheney. Others are frightened into silence by stories of torture and terror of those who have fallen into the clutches of this evil administration."

"Bush Administration demands that the media be fair and unbiased in their reporting have sent a 'chill' through newsrooms across America," Kerry continued. "Broadcasters and editors have been intimidated into withholding criticism of the President's reckless war on terror. As a result, voters are inundated with pro-administration propaganda from virtually every news media outlet. My friends, our country is headed into a dark abyss of fascist oppression unless voters return control of congress to the Democratic Party."

Kerry went on to predict that his speech would be ignored by the media and he, himself, most likely arrested or assassinated by the CIA.

He's beginning to sound like Perot when Perot talked about the Cubans were after him!

Cindy Sheehan was arrested because Cindy Sheehan wanted to get arrested.
Look who gets arrested with her, people who have made a career out of getting arrested.

They know the rules and they deliberately violate them in hopes of getting publicity.

If it wasn't obvious before, there is no truer proof that Kerry is dramatically unfit to be prez, or any elected pol, with these recent statements. "stifled dissent". I don't see how Kerry can make that statement without breaking out laughing at the sheer gall of it.

Guys, other than the first half of the first sentence, this thing is a TOTAL fabrication, and easily verifiable to be untrue. Yet the readers of the site completely believed it. I mean I'm going to admit -- there is plenty in the LW blogosphere that I don't believe (Raw Story, Truthout, even HuffPost) unless it is sourced to something more credible. One has to be discerning. But this is a little example into why 70% of * voters believed that Saddam Hussein was involved in 9/11. This is why it's SO frustrating to be someone who only wants the truth, when "truthiness" feels better. These guys so much WANT Kerry to say nutty stuff like this that they didn't even BOTHER to double check the source. At least over here, there were people questioning a Karl Rove report because of the source. But in the RW underworld, if it's on the computer then it must be true!

So why didn't they publish the real speech? Because as Tay said at the time. Kerry had covered ALL his bases. Heck, I think a lot of conservatives (Libertarian branch) would have liked a LOT of that speech. But have no fear. The disinformation machine took care of that problem, now didn't they?

Edited to add: just saw that it has a Tag of "Satire". But the idiots reading it obviously thought it was real. Okay, these people are just plain dumb.

1. Wow! That is beyond crazy
What's amazing is that the transcript and the video are easily available. I would have remembered Kerry predicting he would be assinated.

3. Ahm, I think they got ahold of a bad copy of Mission Impossible3
That reads like a bad script for an action spy movie. Prominent Senator gives fiery speech predicting his own arrest, then disappears. CIA suspected. But is it a cover-up or is the Senator involved or is everyone here on drugs. ('srooms.)

You can't help people who are willfully ignorant. Your help becomes part of the paranoid delusion. These people see what they want to see. Actually showing them the speech won't help as they will think this is the doctored for cable version. You could tell them that you were there and they would only include you in the liberal media deception.

Reach those you can reasonably reach. Get them when they fall off the Rethug wagon. The folks on FR are hopeless because they want to be stupid and ignorant. They like it.

6. Your right - but the saving grace
is they never get what they want - a tape where they manage to push Kerry into sounding like they picture him sounding. He just keeps being the inspiring person he's always been.

I would imagine that it frustrates them to some degree that:
-In the debates it was their candidate who sounds like a near lunatic and is wired, where Kerry is perfectly dignified, intelligent and he has the President steal an answer from him.
-Kerry was absolutely dignified and respectable in his concession and all his actions since then
-Kerry really is braver, stronger and smarter than they'll ever be. They can make up lies - but at some point at some level they know they're lies. (The ones who are STILL looking for the negative records that Kerry hid from his service are simply lunatics.) It's ironic - they value bravery and athletic prowess. If Kerry were a conservative, they would have been in heaven, instead they had a chicken hawk, with an alcohol and drug past who falls off bicycles more often than any adult I ever met. So, they have to make up things.

4. It's tagged "satire," but
in all honesty I expect that insanity lurks out there. I mean: how can anyone support a man who gives a speech on ethanol and says there isn't enough corn to feed the animals?

7. Makes it easy to spread misinformation to followers
They can stop lying (technically). All they have to do is continue to make up the stuff they do, but tag it satire. Apparently nobody will notice the tag and they will take it as serious news. This way if caught in their lies they can say they were posting satire rather than making things up.

Quick--somebody find the original Swift Boat ads. Maybe it says "satire" in a really small font on screen. :)

8. Semi-News
I see it is also listed as Semi-News.

Is this the new term for it? Are we supposed to start referring to the stories on Fox as semi-news?. How about the reports from Tony Snow?

9. Back from the cesspool with more
First, didn't Kerry sign the 180? Wasn't that what all the hoopla about his Yale grades was about? Well, I found a post (boring, really) dated April 2006 . . . demanding that he release his entire Navy record, calling him a liar and a coward. They also keep harping about a "less than honorable discharge" from the Navy. I think the lefties pissed at Kerry for waiting until after the election to sign the 180 need to see this. It doesn't matter WHAT he does; they'll keep on coming up with more hurdles!

Anyway, I almost fell over, when I read this:

To: pabianice
Please, be accurate: Liar yes, coward no...Kerry was never a coward.

and this:

To: bill1952; Stepan12
(not signing off on the 180 and releasing his record to public view after 30 - 35 years might be construed as cowardly.)
...If I had uttered the same statements as he did regarding Navy service, I wouldn't want it disclosed either (because I believe the 180 would definitely expose him to be the liar the poster said he was); but IN NO WAY is his reticence related to cowardice. Kerry earned the Silver Star Medal in Vietnam, something that the United States Navy does not give out gratuitously and which, to my understanding, was not disputed by the Swift Boat vets..

A lot of these freepers are, sadly, military people. And, well . . . I'm glad this guy spoke up. He's still a freeper through and through, but at least he was willing to see some of the propaganda for what it was -- disgusting. Okay, no more freeperville. I'm going to x out. But I suppose once in a while we should go over there to find out what Kerry is going to be hit with next. He's still a big deal over there -- they're not slowing down attacking him.

10. A few more details I forgot
Edited on Tue May-02-06 03:21 PM by beachmom
The posts about Kerry are almost like ours, weirdly enough. EVERYTHING about Kerry is over there -- his e-mails, all the articles (the good, the bad, the ugly), even his dKos blog posts. But it's all couched in sarcasm and hate. The place is probably a better Kerry source than the MSM! I mean they're on his e-mail list!!! Does this mean I have to get on Allen's list? I'm not sure what to make of it. But even if the D.C. Dems have written him off, obviously the Right hasn't. Otherwise that place wouldn't look a little like the evil version of our forum here.

Edited to add: when I mean the evil version of our forum, we're talking all the way down to his clothes. On one thread, they obsessed about his barn jacket for at least 10 lines. And they show unflattering pictures of him, but still -- they're posting pictures of him (a funny one of him playing soccer with the kids in earthquake devastated Pakistan -- a bad picture, but it showed me that he was playing with the kids which I thought was so nice).

If you watched Star Trek (original series) this reminds me of the Mirror universe. Star Trek shows the good Federation and compared it with the evil version in the mirror universe. You found the equivalent evil mirror universe version of us.

12. I agree with you that looking to see what they're saying
is worthwhile - and it is telling that they are better at seeing he hasn't gone away than the mainstream media. I think it comes down to their failure to get him to fit into their little boxes designed for liberals.

Kerry really fits none of their stereotypes. Oddly, if he was a hate filled, right wink Senator, they would love his real Naval record, that he really hunts (not like Cheney where the birds are brought to him), he flys a plane, he played 4 sports in college, he saved another Senator. I think what's behind there cracks on his jacket is that they would love the real Kerry to be a clothes horse, but he's not. What he wore on the campaign seems to be what he wears. He really does go to church and he's got a very close family.

They can feel superiority over Clinton because of Monica Lewinsky. With Kerry all they can do is babble about a non-existant dishonorable discharge (which Nixon didn't know about or was too kindly to use when he told his people to destroy Kerry.

13. Posted to GD
I just posted this in GD as this is a good story of how the RW noise machine works.

This will be helpful perhaps for JK, because I think even a lot of lefties have absorbed some of the garbage out there about him (and Gore, too.).
