What the hell is Mehlman talking about in this
Edited on Tue May-02-06 03:03 PM by ProSense
string of stupid one-line cliches?

Prejudice anywhere, against any group, is an insult to what America is all about.
As President Bush has said, you cannot carry the message of freedom and the baggage of bigotry.

Snip...

When we allow threats to gather and grow, we have waited too long.
When we wait until the enemy is too strong to defeat, we have waited too long.
When we wait until the attack is imminent, we have waited too long.

1. Is that for their own party (the prejudice)?
Because the only racism I'm reading about is anti-Latino coming from the Right. Weird. Maybe he switched parties and didn't tell anyone?

2. How about:

When you spy on people based on phony threats, you have broken the law.
When you use fear mongering to justify torture, you have broken the law.
When you falsify evidence of an imminent threat, you have broken the law.

3. Mehlman booed
Talking Points Memo

(May 02, 2006 -- 03:09 PM EDT)
Ken Mehlman spoke at the American Jewish Committee's 100th anniversary event this morning. And I hear that when he told the crowd that Iraq is less of a threat or a challenge today than it was under Saddam he got roundly booed.

4. I guess they are still very afraid of Kerry
The President's commitment to stand with Israel also means that Iran cannot be allowed to threaten Israel with nuclear weapons ... period.

The announcement that Iran has enriched uranium is a call to action for the allies of Israel...and the allies of freedom.

When President Bush listed an "axis of evil", including Iran, in 2002, some criticized him for it.

John Kerry, who would later run for President, said that "Iran, for instance, shouldn't be lumped in with Iraq."

Mehlman got booed at this event.

5. Rethug message: terra, terra, terra, get them before they get you
That's about it in a nutshell. (And these are some real nuts.)

These people have broken the law. They have spied on Americans domestically without warrant which is a Constitutional offense. They have done various other things that are anti-American and against the law.

So, they have to go and say that the Rethugs are the only ones who are keeping the American people safe and to hell with those pesky rule of law thing and that civil rights thing. Terra, terra, terra, 9/11 trumps everything.

It did in 2004. I don't think it does anymore.

6. I don't know if this makes sense
Edited on Tue May-02-06 09:16 PM by karynnj
but the format, the repeated ending and scan of this:

When we allow threats to gather and grow, we have waited too long.
When we wait until the enemy is too strong to defeat, we have waited too long.
When we wait until the attack is imminent, we have waited too long.

sounds like some Jewish readings used in services (extra readings, not the traditional prayers )

As to the Kerry quote, that is beyond disgusting. Both John and Teresa Kerry have condemned the anti-semetic ranting of the Iranian President. I don't think the comment will change anyone's opinion.
