1. Not cribbing, refuting |

Kerry's listed those things as things government should do. Bush is saying people don't speak to himabout those things, but say they pray for him. (I hope they pray that he gains some humility, admits he made a mistake, and gets out of Iraq, and changes all the bad unilateral rulings he's made.)

I meant cribbing the references. How does one develop an anecdote about personal prayer that includes a reference to government's responsibility for bridges and potholes?
It's so odd, I'm having trouble understanding the relationship between what he's talking about and what they're not asking him.

3. Someone on the speechwriting staff saw Kerry's remarks? |

It seems like * is saying, "Unlike certain liberals, who think government is all about serving the people, I say that government is all about ME!" :P

You're right! Bush's comments almost don't make sense unless you read Kerry's. Presidents rarely do anything with pot holes - unless that's a new hobby to replace clearing brush.
It's weird because that was a pretty obscure article. It's amazing his writer got hold of it - likely they are really monitoring what Kerry says. (Maybe they'll learn something.)
