PITTSFIELD — Local and state leaders swiftly fired a collective verbal salvo yesterday condemning the swastikas found on a local building Sunday night, saying that Pittsfield will not tolerate vandalism that targets the Jewish community, or any other ethnicity or religion for that matter.

From U.S. Sen. John Kerry to the Anti-Defamation League, the vandalism was roundly denounced.

"These aren't just acts of vandalism," wrote Kerry in a statement, "they are acts of hate. There is no place for the swastika in a civil society. These expressions of hate violate the law and threaten everything we believe in as Americans.

"We need to stand together as a community and make it loud and clear that this will not be tolerated in Pittsfield or anywhere. Those responsible need to be found and punished, and I will do whatever I can to support government and law enforcement officials (to) ensure those responsible are brought to justice."

9. To be fair to the Al Gore group -- see my comment about

the wow so fantastic picture of Gore now on that dKos diary. He's a different good looking from Kerry -- more of a naturalist type thing going on. But I have to say, it's the best picture I've seen of Gore that I can think of. He really does look better in a beard.

I think I like him better sans beard, although he looked good in that pic. There's a poster at DU named AtomicKitten, and she has a beautiful pic of Al and Tipper laughing in her sig line. Gore is quite handsome, too - just not as handsome as my John. :loveya:

3. Flashing back to the 1940s

A very young John Kerry is standing next outside the family home in France which has been burned out by the Nazis. There is glass underfoot and he is watching his mother cry. And then the older one riding his bicycle into Eastern Berlin and seeing the devastation caused by hatred and war.

He stands up for people. Always. He never misses. It's like he is looking out for
all Americans, no matter what their backround, race, religion, beliefs.

And the fact that he is tall, dark, and handsome doesn't hurt one bit either :)
