Question - are we on DU or freeperville. Since yesterday, I have met
poster after poster on GD who are swooning at Buchanan. Are these people ignorant, stupid, or just simply in agreement with Buchanan on his core beliefs, in which case I should probably not be here.

1. They looooove Ron Paul too
Despite the fact that he would annihilate every social program - including public schools.

But he opposed the WAR and that's all that matters to some of the fruitbats in GD. All they want is someone who will disagree with or hate Bush, regardless of the person's ideology or ethics. It's actually quite disturbing.

19. Wow
I guess when you agree with them on four iissues: Iraq, Israel, Patriot Act, and NAFTA than it doesn't matter if you support gutting social programs.

20. i have lost all respect for these types
they not only are "too left" but they aren't even really liberal . if they don't care for civil rights , environment, welfare programs etc . they aren't even thinking about the people.

21. Totally
Yeah it's bad enough for me honestly that some of them are way out there on the spectrum but the fact that they're willing to sacriface important party values just because Paul is on their side it seems now on four issues. These people are so illogical and yet they think they should be running the party. Drives me nuts how stupid some of them are. As much as I appreciate that some conservatives share my positions on say the war, trade, or what have you, I wouldn't be going out of my way to endorse them.

4. Of course.
There has always been a few Buchanan's worshippers on DU, but the number seems to be increasing lately.

6. Given that Buchanan has expressed admiration for Hitler in the past,
The anti-semitic undertones of that are downright disturbing.

It's one thing to disagree with Israel's tactics. It's quite another to jump on the bandwagon of a known anti-semite because he hates Israel too. What's next, are we going to start seeing support for Aryan Nations and Stormfront who oppose the war in Iraq on the grounds that it's a "pro-Zionist" war?

5. they are applyimg the same principle to Buchanan as they do
to everyone else. I call it the 'Hero of the Day' principle. Be it Feingold, Dean, Gore, Murtha, even Buchanan. The person does or says one thing DU'ers agree with, and the hero worship begins. Never mind that that same person may be wrong on every other issue. That little inconvenience is saved for the 'Tear the Hero off the Pedestal' day. Reminds me of a bunch of manic depressives.

7. Buchanan is the only talking head I've heard that made the point
that Israel has overstepped their bounds, i.e., gunning for Lebanese citizens. I loved hearing him saying that.

because he can attack Israel. Of course, they may be things in the article that I agree with, but it is beyond me how progressives can forget who he is and swoon like that.

BTW, there are other people who say the same thing and that did not say that Hitler should be admired. However, if you want to say the Dems are sadly missing here, I will agree with you.

12. Your comments were great - it's too bad they can't look away
from their agenda even momentarily to see the big picture. They should at least commend the Boston Globe for taking a saner position than the cynical one taken by our government - which is intentionally holding up an international demand for a cease fire to give Israel time to weaken Hezbollah.

The blatant anti-semitism and the hatred of America (not just Bush) of the far LW makes them as obnoxious as the far RW. They're not Democrats, so why are they here?

13. Gunning for Lebanese citizens??
You know, what's been sorely missing from the GD discussion are the rocket attacks on Israel. Those attacks are on civilians, just randomly hitting Haifa and other Israeli towns. You can disagree with war for the sake of disagreeing with war, but Israel is not targeting Lebanese citizens or Lebanon just for the pleasure of killing people. That's the kind of lop-sided thinking that exists in the ME and is the major obstacle to peace.

8. Buchanan is a racist.. They were thrilled when Kristol denounced Iraq war
I don't care what these people say. Isolated comments don't matter. They will never align themselves with reason.

Buchanan from the November 8 2004 issue of American Conservative:

Coming Home

By Patrick J. Buchanan

There is a final reason I support George W. Bush. A presidential election is a Hatfield-McCoy thing, a tribal affair. No matter the quarrels inside the family, when the shooting starts, you come home to your own. When the Redcoats approached New Orleans to sunder the Union and Jackson was stacking cotton bales and calling for help from any quarter, the pirate Lafitte wrote to the governor of Louisiana to ask permission to fight alongside his old countrymen. “The Black Sheep wants to come home,” Lafitte pleaded.

Both very nasty.

15. Disgusting
With all the Buchanan worshipping going on in GD lately, together with what appears to be a group animosity toward Israel, I too have felt I might not belong at DU.

Then I read here (Kerry's still THE MAN) and I'm okay again for a while.

Please tell me I'm not sick for going to the following video over and over, just to see his graceful (and oh, so hot!) self at the end.

16. Which video, frogmarch?
When I click your link, I get Frank Zappa, 'The government doesn't belong in your bedroom'.
Regarding your post,
I agree (just really hoping for both sides to work toward some peaceful resolution).
I agree.
I agree, and I haven't seen the video yet.

Stay here. It's nice.

The Crooks and Liars video is called "The Apologists." I found it by clicking Ann Coulter (bleah) in the left sidebar on the main page. I think it can also be found by clicking Keith Olbermann.

Another try at a direct link to the video.

(I tried it in Preview and it works for me. The video starts with a clip of Tom Delay.)

Edited to add that "Glenn Beck, radio host" is now Glenn Beck, host of his own show on CNN. :puke:
