http://www.thestate.com/mld/thestate/15097401.htmColumbia has landed the role of Boston in the movie “Death Sentence.”
The S.C. Film Commission announced Friday the movie, starring Kevin Bacon, will be filmed in Columbia and surrounding areas. Production will begin in late summer or early fall, said S.C. Film commissioner Jeff Monks.
“Death Sentence” is based on a novel by Brian Garfield. Bacon will play John Hume, a father who becomes fed up with the judicial system and seeks revenge against a punk gang that killed his son. The book’s plot was set in Boston.
Well alrightie then - The City of Boston is not the first thing that springs to mind when I flash back to my college days spent in Columbia, but I guess that's why they call it "movie magic". It is "old", not really "wicked old" - just "old". There are two rivers, even though the city is not right on either of these. There are a couple of institutes of higher learning and lots of parks and green space. Hmmmmm - I'll have to go to see the movie to compare and contrast.
Two things I'm quite sure that Columbia has that Boston doesn't: A football stadium that seats 80,000+ and 80 degree weather in December. Columbia is one of the few things I still love about South Carolina.
If I squint, I can see the resemblance. Or not.
