RTWH: what did you think of Chris Dodd? |
|
His politics aside, how do you think he looked as a potential candidate? He's considering running. While he's no JK, he was much better than either Vilsack or Clinton as a speaker. Seemed authentic, comfortable with himself and energetic. The other two were either expressionless (Vilsack) or too careful(Clinton).
Dodd spoke of the same Dem issues that JK also does, but the one thing that bothered me was on Iraq: he didn't actually say "get out". He merely said "enough is enough!" OK, so what does that mean, exactly, Chris?
I still think JK would out-do him, because he's far more experienced at connecting with a crowd of people, etc. People talk about "fresh blood" (ugh I hate that term), but truth is, Dodd has been in Washington longer than JK has.

1. I like Dodd, but I don't know too much about him. |
|
I don't think he compares to Kerry though. Hey how about Kerry/Dodd! (Just kidding)

If I recall he is the RMM of Foreign Relations, and knowledge in that is a big reason why I will support or not a candidate. Dodd's perceived as a fresh face because to the Casual American, he isn't as well known as Kerry. I'd like Dodd better than Clinton honestly or Biden though Biden knows foreign policy, he's too much of a politican for me.

4. yeah,he lacks the swarmy politician thing that Biden has |
|
i guess that would be his biggest asset. he doesn't really come off as a politician . most would probably just see him as a good guy.

5. Yeah Hiliary and Biden both |
|
bah. He'd make an interesting candidate though, we never had a president from Connecticut well on second thoght  we have. I bet some of the people on the boards here would object to him because he's supporting Lieberman but they were against Kerry too and Edwards mostly and look what happened there.

Then Sarbanes, then Dodd, I think. Then Kerry, Feingold, Boxer, Nelson and Obama.

Is that Ben or Bill Nelson. Either way a fine group of Dems we got on Foreign Relations. I like Paul Sarbines, ran in to him the day I met Mary Landrieu and he was really friendly to my poli sci class. He's retiring this year, hopefully Ben Cardin or Mfume can beat Mike Steele, I think they can and Marty O'Malley will beat Ehrlich. Gonna be compeitive though because Steele and Ehrlich, especially Steele have been trying to distance themselves and of course incumbency in Ehrlich's case/

|
I just looked it up. He's on four committees but that's the only ranking member one.

I think we need a governor for the presidential candidate if not Kerry honestly then have a DC insider at the bottom of the ticket.

11. This weekend on Chris Matthews.... |
|
Andrew Sullivan said that there was no way Hillary or Edwards would or should be the candidate because they don't have the foreign policy experience. Matthews said (suprisingly enough) that was exactly why we shouldn't count out Kerry or Gore (they both have excellent forgein policy credentials)

3. he is easily to like personally, but i don't think he has it to win the |
|
nomination. i think you need something more . i'm sure most people would like him, get along with him personally etc. but i think there is something that would be lacking if he ran in the primary, especially considering some of the competition.

Hair = White, not silver. Not too terribly tall, not short, just average. Voice that goes without 'idears.' No definitive and distinctive tie collection.
Yup, not Kerryish enough.
