DISGUSTING fascist media slander: Ned Lamont is the "al-Qaeda candidate"
Edited on Fri Aug-11-06 07:35 PM by WildEyedLiberal
Is it fascism yet?

CNN's Chuck Roberts insinuates that Ned Lamont is the "al-Qaeda candidate:"

Contact CNN here and tell them you will not tolerate their vile slander: http://www.cnn.com/feedback/forms/form1.html?33

Contact Chuck Roberts and tell him what a un-American pig he is: http://www.cnn.com/feedback/forms/form4b.html?76

The media has too long gotten away with insinuating that opposing Bush's imperialist rule is somehow pro-terrorist or anti-American. Let them know that you find their Goebbels thug tactics beyond the pale.

1. Wow, just wow.
That is truly disgusting. I'm getting really sick and tired of this shit. IMO Roberts owes Ed Lamont, and by extension all Connecticut Democrats who voted for him, an on-air apology. (I would say he owes ALL Democrats an apology but I know that would be way to much to ask.)

2. I responded:
Is there any sane reason why Chuck Roberts felt the need to engage in a discussion to determine whether or not Ned Lamont the Democratic Senatorial candidate from Connecticut is the al Qaeda candidate? Is al Qaeda a political party in the United States?

The media needs to stop engaging in these flagrantly biased attempts to associate Democratic candidates with terrorist groups. I understand why the Dick Cheney does it: he and the others in the Bush administration are trying to dodge accountability for the failures of the past five years. They will continue to hide behind their disgusting rhetoric. Apparently, Chuck Roberts seeks to give the administration the cover it needs to continue failing the country. Roberts' disingenuous framing of Cheney's atrocious claims, pretending that his question was responsible, is appalling!

I demand that Roberts apologize to every American who is a member of the Democratic Party.

Bastard!

4. the pervert Republicans and their whore media celebrated
during the recent terrorist alerts. they love it when this happens. they love it when people die and are threatened.

the Republicans control every fucking thing and we get threatened or attacked with terrorism and they say it's the Democrats fault ? what motherfuckers ?

and what that vile beast Cheney said would never have been allowed if a democrat had said the same.

remember how they got when Kerry mentioned Cheney daughter being a lesbian. whether one agreed with what he did or not you have to admit the reaction to that was way overblown and not worthy of the attention especially when you compare it to how they treat the perverted Republican statements.

5. I must throw some sadness in with the outrage here
When I lived in Atlanta, I went on the VIP tour of CNN, and when we went by Headline News, Chuck Roberts was there and actually took the time to chat with us. He was kind and down to earth. What in the hell has gotten INTO these media people, that they wouldn't know immediately that "al Qaeda candidate" is about as biased a thing you could EVER say as possible (there's a lot of puzzlement among former colleagues with whathisface Gibson from Fox News who not 10 years ago was a respected reporter)? Don't they get that Fox News ratings have gone down, and it's outraged liberals they should be catering to (hey, let's address what's most important to them which is ratings). Thanks for reminding me why I never watch CNN.

7. Okay, okay -- Roberts apologized to Lamont. Here it is:
http://www.crooksandliars.com/posts/2006/08/15/chuck-roberts-apologises-to-lamont-for-saying-hes-the-al-qaeda-candidate/

You know, I owe you an apology. Last week, I led into an interview with a guest analyst and really botched the set-up. The guest had wanted to discuss the Dick Cheney and Joe Lieberman statements suggesting that terror groups — Al Qaeda type, to use Cheney’s words — would be buoyed by your win, but I posed it badly, stupidly ad-libbing about "some saying Lamont is the Al-Qaeda candidate." No one, in fact, used that construction. Anyway, I wanted to correct the record, and I’m glad we had this chance to do it. Now, let’s get to the insinuations that were lobbed…

I feel better now, especially since, as I said, Chuck Roberts seemed like a good guy when I saw him at CNN. I think that what this comes down to is that the MSM has so thoroughly absorbed the RW propaganda that they make slips like this. Maybe we Dems need to have better mantras that can as easily be absorbed by the MSM to counteract the bullshit.

8. I'm glad he apologized,
even if it was due to backlash. The problem I have with these journalist is that they are smart people. They work for big organizations and have access to the best and most timely information. They have meetings and boards that keep them informed. They know all the spin (even the inside spin), yet they claim ignorance on the facts. When I learn about something that goes unreported on CNN for several days or never gets reported (such as Conyers' latest report; still waiting), there is a problem.

I watched the Chuck Roberts clip, that was not simply poor framing. The entire discussion was from the standpoint that Cheney's despicable point could somehow be valid.

Roberts' apology and George Will's comments are signs of hope, but the media has yet to demonstrate that they want to give the Democratic perspective equal time and, more important, that they are interested in reporting the facts consistently and giving facts more weight than spin.

9. Agreed which is why we need to continue to fight and give
back feedback. People power does work if it reaches a critical mass. It's just not going to change overnight. The change to the Right in the media happened gradually over many years, so what is ingrained there won't go back immediately. But just because we have setbacks doesn't mean that we don't maintain our optimism that through our words and actions, we CAN change the conversation in the media step by step.
