If it is any indication of what mood Sen. Kerry is in for the fall elections, then run, don't walk to any event that you hear he might be appearing at. He is in fine form for 'giving 'em hell' this fall and he was having a good time doing it on Sunday.
It kills me too! I saw a real stump speech. LOL! (Honest, it was on a tree stump and everything.) This may be one of my top 3 or 4 Kerry appearances. It rocked. He dismissed my idiot Gov and his shallow knowledge of foreign affairs with just a couple of sentences. He had a lot of fun with the setting, the hosts, the crowd and so forth. He was serious when he needed to be, and had fun with the topics as he could, which these days, isn't that often.
(Ahm, oh geez, ahm, I get to have top 3 or 4 appearances out of the one I have seen. GV is definitely going to think I'm all spoiled now. Ahm, an effort shall be made to move heaven and earth and Senator Kerry to Pennsylvania, so you can see him give a stump speech in support of Casey. There, now I feel better.)
All kidding aside, there were a lot of people at this event who have been 'with' Senator Kerry for a long, long time. I think he was so relaxed and loose because he was home, at an event for Mass Dems, (who are, after all, his base) and among friends. That was the feel of the event. A nice summer afternoon raising funds for good Democrats, with some local pols there and Sen. Kerry dropping by to say Hi! to the group. It was not a formal event and I don't want to make more than it was. (And yeah, it was still a Kerry speech, but it wasn't a 'Kerry Speech' like what we report on at Faneuil Hall.) It was a fun cookout. I ate a hamburger, had some potato salad, heard the good Senator call for Mass Dems to sign up to be precinct Captains and to rebuild the ground operation in Mass and then he talked about Iraq and national security and stuff. A good time was had by all. (I think this is what the Iowa events are like, politics and potato salad.)
