John Kerry Applauded for His Fight to End Genocide in Darfur
Genocide Intervention Network Gives Kerry “A+” for His Work in the Senate

WASHINGTON – The Genocide Intervention Network today awarded Senator John Kerry an A+ -- a perfect score for his strong support of aggressive U.S. action to end the genocide in Darfur. The Network is a non-profit organization working to stop genocide around the globe.

“The genocide in Darfur is inexcusable. It is a tragedy that shocks the conscience of everyone who cares about human rights and basic human dignity,” John Kerry said. “The United States has a moral obligation to do everything we can to protect the people of Darfur from the widespread killings, enslavement and ethnic cleansing, and I’m going to keep pushing Washington to not just talk the talk, but walk the walk and take action to permanently end these atrocities.”

The scorecards measure the votes of every member of Congress on significant legislation concerning the crisis in Darfur during the current legislative session.

“They’re an important reminder that there will be accountability for every single member of Congress when it comes to ending the horrific genocide in Darfur,” Kerry continued.

Since the beginning of the conflict, nearly 400,000 Darfurians have been killed, almost 2.5 million have been displaced, and over 200,000 have been forced into exile.

“If stopping the genocide in Darfur becomes a top priority for the United States, the atrocities can be stopped,” said Mark Hanis, Executive Director of the Network. “The efforts of champions in Congress bring our great country closer to that commitment.”

1. How does he do it?
How does he manage to be outfront and outspoken about every issue?

God, I love the man.

3. I think he has core beliefs that underscore his actions.
But I'm not ready to have him bronzed just yet. (LOL!) We need a real fighter out there, so I'm withholding the nomination for sainthood for now. (Later maybe, but not now.)

It is amazing what can get done when the person performing the actions believes in the actions themselves.

6. What happened to her was tragic but

There are hundreds of children (and adults) being murdered every day in Darfur. I hope JonBenet's killer is brought to justice but it sure would be nice if people could walk and chew gum at the same time and see my thread and call their Congresspeople to urge them to support aid for Darfur.

14. I remember him talking about it in 2004 but nobody
wanted to listen. The media was too busy covering orange terror alerts.

15. Yup.
JK was the first person - not poltician or candidate, but person - I ever heard mention Darfur.

16. Good on him
First one I heard was my Republican Congressman when he visited the high school last year but it's a very important issue that could and should get bipartisan support, Jon Corzine now governor of New Jersey is a big discusser of it too as is Brownback of Kansas.

17. I'd never heard about it either until JK talked about it. And then I did
research and was horrified that there was nothing on the news about this.
