Portfolios
I do portraits for friends and friends of friends and help my dad with a wedding here and there. Usually people who ask me to do portraits are already familiar with my stuff. A friend of a friend is getting married and has asked if I have a portfolio she can see. Um, no lol. :P I think maybe it's time I put something together, but I am not sure how to go about this. I've picked out several things that I like, but should I enlarge them? Put them in an album? My dad keeps a few things enlarged and in sleeves for people who ask. I don't know that I want to go to that much effort lol! I'd appreciate some input.

TIA

1. I had my own wedding photography business for a while.
I used color copying to make my posters. They got great response. Them when I visited potential customers I had a portfolio with real photos.

So, you cold enlarge some of your photos on a good color copier, at Kinkos (although there a much cheaper places; shop around). Way cheaper than actual enlargement of prints, and will let them see you can compose a shot. For a casual friend-of-a-friend thing every now and again without much payment involved, you might try a few of the color enlargements and see how they strike you.

If you think you're going to do this as a part-time job, though, you'll need to get some real enlargements done and put them in an album. It'll be much more professional.

2. those are good ideas
Plus here's another one to mitigate the expense. Think about if you have a friend in printing. See if you can get him to run off a few for you. They buy the stuff in such volume that it's at a much lower cost.

My neighbor is in the graphics business and he offered to print some photos for me. High quality stuff. That's how I got the idea.

You don't need a lot--just a few key shots.
