Nuttin' special
Since I haven't posted a snap for awhile... nuttin' special. I've gotten soooooo far behind in keeping up with my all the snaps I've taken over the last couple of months.

I was going to call this "Ripping off alfredo".

In The Shadows (ISO 800, 46mm, f/7.1, aperture priority, 1/1000 sec, exp 0 comp)

Taken recently on a bitter cold day. Definitely a "Zen Moment". Not another human to be seen anywhere. Used the F.Gordon Old Crap Technique #1 on this.

The Quiet Farm (ISO 100, 24mm, f/8, aperture priority, 1/250 sec, -.3 exp)

My mind wandered a bit  during my little "Home and Garden" snapahoot on this one. I got bored with the snaps I was taking and got sucked in by the trippy lights in this hallway. I leaned against the wall and held the shutter down for 4 consecutive snaps... very slow shutter speed. I also futzed with the white balance. Incredible home. Won't bore ya' with the story behind this snap... I just liked it.

The Hallway (ISO 1600, 10mm, f/5, aperture priority, 1/10 sec, 0 exp comp, white balance tune)

I was told this eve that I should post a "series" from this snapashoot. This is one snap I took from a private tour I had in Pennsylvania recently. I thought the "series" would be boring because it involves a lot of history.

Pen and Paper (ISO 400, 50mm, f/1.8, aperture priority, 1/200 sec, ev comp 1.3)

That's all for now. Like I said.... nuttin' special. Just felt I had to post a few snaps. This is the "photography forum" :P

1. That second shot should be framed and hung up on your wall
I like the light designs and the warm colors in the third photo.

2. Thanks

I probably will. Still have more crap and dead spiders to clean up and I want to setup a little "gallery" in my basement.

3. It's a really good photo
The shadows in the snow, the three-dimensional look of the snow, the sky, the composition. Good job.

12. Sounds like my basement
It's spider megacity whenever it starts to get cold. Then they die. Then I have to clean up after them.

4. Those are really beautiful, F.
I'm going to take notes of your settings. A lot of my photos just aren't "right," so it helps me to learn what setting combinations create what effect. I'm so hit and miss now. I can make them look okay with the processing, but I want them to look good right out of the camera. It's the perfectionist in me.

5. I agree with the others.
I also like #4.

Thanks for including the data.
That is really helpful for me (and I'm sure others).
Just to make posting pictures here more tedious, I would love to know which lens you were using ?
I haven't bought my 20D yet, and am struggling through "which lenses purgatory".

7. Lenses Purgatory?
You're thinkin' too much. Just buy the friggin' 20D and pick a lens. :)

#1 and #2 were taken with the Canon 24-70mm f/2.8 L. I used the macro mode on #1 (and it has some of that "extreme stuffaroo" ... blurred.. applied sepia) The macro mode on the 24-70 “aint bad” but I recommend using manual focus cause the sucker “hunts” (can’t find a focus point using auto focus) forever when you creep in close like.

#3 used the Canon EFS 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5.

#4 used the Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 (see... I didn’t use f/1.4 :P )

These were both taken using f/1.4. Friend wanted his snapshot taken with this “semi-famous” lady. She really knew how to “work” a snap. She always followed me. Took my "directions". When we were done she asked if I was a “pro”.

I want to learn how to do a better job at takin' people snaps.... along with 1000 other things I want to learn to be better at. But if I can't.... I already have an order from Touchdown if I decide to take up knitting.
:dunce:

And.... “The Dog”

Don't go brain dead over lenses. They're all good. Just pick one. Or two. Or ten.

10. Thanks!
I've pretty much decided on the 17-85 IS, and a fast prime. I love the shots with the 50mm above.

11. I really like the 17-85...it's very versatile.
And the fast 50 is cool. I've been happy with the results I've gotten with the 70-300, too. And, of course, the 10-20. They're all fun in different ways. I think next on my wish list will be that 100 mm macro that Raging was talking about a while ago. I can't wait for summer so I can get down and take closeups of stuff without getting my knees wet.

6. I really like that last one.
A series would be cool, in my opinion, but then, I was a history major...

13. Trying to catch up here.
So where was the house? I love that last shot. Actually really like them all and for different reasons. Go with the series, I think it would be interesting. Then again I like old houses and history.

14. Not a house. Well, not exactly.
I've been pickin' out which snaps to post. Also looking over my notes when I got the personal tour from Chris... this wonderful young woman.

I just took a bunch of macro snaps this evening. I need to just "step away from the camera" for awhile and get caught up with organizing and processing.

15. Not going to feel for those that need to
organize pictures...I am trying to de clutter and organize a house so we can tear out more walls and insulate them. Also shopping for new windows that don't let the wind blow the curtains into the room when they are closed and locked. :banghead: Though will have to admit finding what is behind the walls can be interesting, like we can take a whole wall out and make it a bigger room because the original part of the house is post and beam but with whole logs held together with wood pegs. Hhhhmmm might have to try and get pics when this set of walls is removed. Though I have decided that since we can remove the one wall and make it a big room, it would make a great studio. We are finally to the last room with the major work.
I thought it was a house because so many of the old houses here have the different lights, odd doors, different size rooms, halls and ceiling heights. In the pic with the lights the little door on the left looks like it goes under step. So if you walked forward, turned left there would be a door to the attic stairs right there. That is why I thought house. You need to come out when they are having candlelight tours of the historic houses. Usually around Christmas. Quite a few towns will have all the very old, restored houses open to the public for tours. The owners love to give you the history. Our house is actually on part of a Nottingham lot that was deeded to one John Evans of Scotland in the early 1700s. The original house is still here, finished in 1754. It still has the original beehive oven and they did a great job of putting in plumbing and electric with out ruining the house. Has wood stoves/fireplaces in every room too, even the bathrooms.
