I think my dog's paw needs lotion.

Is this too blurry or what? I thought I had this macro thing down after the flower contest last year -- not so much anymore.

1. I think its good
I mean part of what I personally like about macro shots is that what is in focus has detail and most everything else is meant to be a fading background.

3. Well, thank you.

Maybe I'm just paranoid.

2. That's damn good
And I'm no vet... but the paw looks fine. Unless you take 3-4-5 shots of the same thing at different focal points and then shuffle them all together like... it's near impossible to get an entire bug ass ;) photo in focus.

4. Lol, bug ass photo.
:rolf:

That was a good pic of a dragonfly ass in that other thread BTW. I've been highly unsuccesful at taking pictures of flying bugs like that.

So, I'm being too critical, then? Thanks!

6. Got several of them in focus here:
One big and a bunch a little guys:

and, in case ya can't see the little guys here's a closer view:

I didn't even notice the little guys when I was taking the shot - I was too busy chasing the grasshopper around the stem since he did not want to be shot in profile!

7. Well smite me down
I've never been able to do that and I have no idea what I'm doing wrong. When I go in close in bug ass mode I have a very narrow DOF. Doesn't matter what aperture I use. f/2.8... f/11 ... same DOF. I can get more in focus when I move the camera back.. it's just when I do the kind of snaps like those in my "What the hell is that" thread.

I didn't know that my film camera could over-ride the film code for ISO settings so I'm sure I'm doing something wrong with this too.
:dunce:

Before I cross off bug ass photography from my growing list of things I need to learn... can someone explain what I'm doing wrong.

8. I'm using the built in Macro in my camera
One of the reasons I picked my camera is because the built-in Macro is very good.

The DOF is pretty narrow (if you look at the background) and I wasn't terribly close to the grasshopper (I'd guess about 6" since he kept spiraling away from me), so the relative difference in distance between his nose and his *ss was very little. If I'd been really close to him (an inch or so) you would have seen a much more striking difference in focus.

10. Grasshoppers are pretty easy targets...
They are very lazy and don't do much more than spin around the stem unless you really aggravate them.

11. Our bugs are pretty much MIA around here.
The only one I've seen lately is this guy:

But due to my extreme and irrational fear of spiders I was unwilling to get any closer to him.

12. The grasshopper was a Nebraska summer bug
I just pulled him out of my files. We don't have a lot around here, either.
