Kubota Gardens
is a smallish park in Seattle that was created by the Kubota family as a labor of love and and expression of their aesthetic and appreciation of the Pacific Northwest. See http://www.kubota.org/history.htm for more info. Here are a few pics from a few years ago.

1. Stunning!
The 1st and 3rd are my favs. I bet its a LOT more beautiful if you were actually there, but still, WOW! I read up on the gardens from the link you provided... interesting stuff. Good to see they maintain this spot now cuz its simply beautiful.

Were you visiting Seattle when you took these? Or do you live nearby?

3. Home turf
Don't tell anyone, but when it is NOT cloudy and rainy, Seattle can be a stunningly beautiful place. Not only for the wide views of the Sound and lakes and the Cascades and the Olympics and Rainier. but also smaller spots like this one.

2. We have a Japanese garden
at Golden Gate Park. One of my favorite places to go. Gotta get back there. Haven't been in a while. These photos are beautiful. They just ooze peace.

4. Thanks -- unlike the smaller more formal Japanese Garden
in the Arboretum, the Kubotas had a lot of room and created several different areas and with different moods and views, mostly with a much more natural feel. Part of a different tradition of landscape design, and we are lucky it has been saved from destruction by developers. Some of the other parks were designed by Olmstead, and one is true old growth forest. Many pretty places.

5. What a treasure!
I was fortunate to spend a few days in Seattle last year and was really impressed by its beauty. If I ever get back there I'll make it a point to visit this park, rain or shine!

I like the circle effect in your second picture best.

7. These are beautiful and
thanks for adding the link to the story. I'm glad people saved these gardens. Seattle would of lost a treasure had the developers had their way.

8. My favorite is the third...
I love the simplicity and the "zen" feel of it.

9. Did you get your permit and pay the fees?
Professional photographers are required to have a permit to take pictures in the garden. Call 206-684-4080 for permit and fee information

:wow: :wtf:

I just have a problem with places like this that don't allow serious photographers from capturing light. When did "light" become a commodity? Oh well.

Regardless... your photos are spectacular. You have a very consistent style. I'm envious.

10. "Professional" usually means the photos being made by someone
who makes their living that way. I suspect this restriction is intended to prevent situations like I once encountered there. Not sure if it was a pro, but on one visit there was a crew with a model who had planted themselves at one end of the red bridge in #4, assistants with big reflectors and such, and they pretty much ruined the setting for others who were there to enjoy the garden and/or take some pretty pix. They spent hours at that location, basically confiscating it for their own private purposes, rather than just setting up a tripod and trying to be unobtrusive and respectful of others, as most of us "serious" photographers would do. I suspect that rule was designed to allow the park managers to put a stop to that kind of activity as well as give pros some guidance on how to minimize any disruption to normal park use, and maybe to toss a few coins into the park maintenance budget.

Glad you enoyed the photos. They are straight scans, and could use some tweaking, especially the last one, but all the snow pix and the cold weather in Seattle seemed to call for some spring-summer pretties.

11. "When did light become a commodity?"
That's right up there with our illustrious governor's proposal to start charging tourists $5 a person for the privilege of viewing our wildlife. The rest of us are rolling on the floor laughing. :wtf:
