A week late I finally get some decent "Absence of Color" shots
<sigh> Saturday morning it began snowing hard so I grabbed my camera and drove to a local state park to see if there was anything worth shooting. The whole time I was out it was being in a black and white world! Here are a few I like:

Blackwater Falls, West Virginia

Rock on the trail to the falls

Near Lindy Run overlook

1. I like that last one best.
It's totally where I'd be hibernating if I was a smallish critter or a gnome. The shot going down to the falls is nice, too, though it gives me a bit of vertigo.

3. I agree with alfredo on the 2nd one
Looking for a sword shoved in that rock. But I really like the sense of distance ya' got in the first one. But.. but... the light in the 3rd is kewl.

Looks like you had a fun day and got some great photos.

7. "Looking for a sword shoved in that rock."
Bizarre. That's precisely the same thought I had. (Da-da-da-dah, da-da-da-dah.)

9. I removed the sword
It ruined the effect I was trying for. It didn't come out easy, let me tell you.

12. Are you going to use it to slay all the Neocons?
You know, I made a vow to myself that I wasn't going to cut my hair until those a**holes are out of power (I know - so '60s of me), but it's already down to my waist. I don't want it dragging on the ground, so you've got your work cut out for you. Get busy, dude.

13. Dear Rapunzel, ...

I would use the sword against these a**holes, but they're doing a fine job of self-destructing all on their own. I have a feeling we're going to be hearing the "I" more and more this year. And when they are finally vanquished I shall use this sword to shear your tresses. :woohoo:

Its a tie between the last two for me. The more I look at them the more I see. Great photos.

5. Thanks for the comments
At thumbnail size I like the second one best, but full size I like the bottom one. It was just the right amount of snow to provide good contrast to the darker rocks and trees without overwhelming the scene.

8. These are very pretty...
You encourage me to get out and shoot more, even though our colors here are kind of limited right now, too.

10. Have you finally gotten more snow?
A few weeks ago it looked like the rest of us were hogging it all.

11. No, no snow...
...but at least it's stopped melting. This is the first day that it hasn't been above 40 degrees in at least a week, and it's still 32, but supposed to get colder. We're all praying for snow before the Iditarod starts March 5. HullBoss is an Iditarod volunteer -- this year he has signed up as a dog handler and he'll be helping with the ceremonial start here in Anchorage, and then we'll be going out to Wasilla or Willow, wherever they end up starting the real race, the next day. Wasilla if there's snow or further north in Willow if there isn't. I'm going to be snapping pictures like crazy.

14. That's depressing
It was -4 F at the West Virginia cabin Sunday morning. Hard to believe we were colder than Alaska all weekend! Can't wait to see your pictures of the Iditarod.
