2. I wish we had cardinals out here |
|
But we do have crested jays, who at present are braving the current storm and gathering sticks and twigs for this year's nest. Maybe they will build it in some accessible place so I can get pics this year.

3. This could have been a contender in the contest! |

Nice shot, I like the post-processing, but its a good photo to start with too. The chaos of all the branches and shadows is excellent!

7. the chaos was one reason I did what I did. |

I also took inspiration from a scene in "Schindler's List." Remember the girl in the red coat?

I don't know shit about birds and I'm probably wrong.... but the selective color of the birdie against the barren tree/bush. A sign of the coming Spring? Even not... still a very nice photo and I can pretend if I'm wrong.

8. I remember the story of one of my father's co-workers and his wife... |
|
The wife was an avid bird-watcher, while the husband might have been able to distinguish an eagle from a chickadee. He was calling her from the office one day, when she (obviously watching the bird feeders from the window) suddenly shouted "I've got to go! The cardinal's visiting!" and hung up. The husband found himself sitting there, wondering "why would the cardinal be visiting us...we're Protestants!"

I wonder how it would have looked if you left the bird and his house both colored, and left the rest greyscale.

11. I thought about that, but decided |
|
it would lessen the impact of the bird.
