EGG MOON: According to folklore, tonight's full moon is the Egg Moon. Go outside and take a look; what you see may give you some good ideas for coloring Easter eggs. Craters. Rays. Mountain ranges. Finally, you can put all those cracked shells to good use!

Other names for April's full moon are the Pink Moon, the Fish Moon, the Sprouting Grass Moon and even the Tax Moon. So close to Easter, however, Egg Moon seems best.

1. Here's one I took a couple years ago in California

The moon here is REALLY bright -- I mean, bright enough that it keeps me awake at night when it's full or near full (like this week).

5. I agree, very difficult to get right

I usually take two pictures, one exposed for the moon (everything else dark), and then one exposed for the overall scene (with the moon a bright ball). Then I put them together in Photoshop. Our digital cameras just don't have the dynamic range do it justice.

There's a guy on flickr who kind of specializes in landscape photos where he takes two shots at different exposures (usually one exposed for the sky, the other for the foreground) and then blends them in Photoshop. The results are very impressive. For example:

7. "Two shots" ....a good idea.

I was frustrated by the inability to find an exposure that captured the moon plus the moonlighting effects on the clouds that were so beautiful to the naked eye. Every time I opened up the exposure, the moon turned into a glaring white hot spot.
If dialed back enough to give some definition to the moon, everything else disappeared. :shrug:

I love the shot you posted, and it has given me some ideas for this summer.

6. This was the Easter moon last year. I'm not to sure if I am going to

have a good shot this year as it it pretty cloudy.

8. I think tonight must be the last time

we get to see a moonrise for a while. Full moon rose last night after 10:00 p.m. Tonight it's 11:47. Tomorrow - no moonrise, so I guess that's it. Next month the full moon rises after midnight, and in June it doesn't even come up at all on the night when it's supposed to be full moon. Things start getting strange up here this time of year.

10. Those photos, particularly the second, have a 'Japanese' art feel to them.

I can easily imagine the 2nd one, cropped from the bottom, as a piece of art in a Japanese setting, perhaps above some Bonsai or Ikebana arrangements in an alcove.
