This was taken in the Kansas City - City Market (formerly called the river market, and before that, the river quay and way back, Westport Landing). Where I am standing was next to the city hall until around 1933 or so. This farmer's market has been operating on this block since around 1870. It was on the less hilly path up from the Missouri river, so things brought by barge or rail could be easily unloaded.
I buy most of my spices and flower seeds at The Planter's Seed Co-- a store that has been in the same spot for about 140 years. My first public photo exhibit will be in the the City Market Coffeehouse this mid September. The local italian deli makes incredible sausage. And of course, there is Hayward's BBQ on the market square too.
On weekends there are musicians, street entertainers, and well, massive amounts of fresh produce.
