Random garden shots

Whoever came up with the saying, "like shooting fish in a barrel" never tried to shoot fish in a pond. Damned uncooperative little devils. This is one out of I don't even know how many.

1. A couple of more

This guy finally got in the sun last night.

So nice of him to perch on the blue agapanthus.

4. These two are particularly gorgeous, NV Whino.
I've been all over the country this year, and have seen more dragonflies than I had ever seen in my life before. I've seen dragonflies in Massachusetts, North Carolina, Tennessee, Mississippi, Texas (desert and tropical), Washington State, Kansas and Colorado. I have never seen a blue dragonfly before. Just gorgeous!

5. I never had dragonflies
before I put in my ponds. They are such a delight. I spent some time in Georgia many years ago and was fascinated with all the different kinds of dragonflies that attended the little pond on the property. I'm so happy to have these guys hanging around.

7. These are so pretty...
My late mother was especially fond of dragonflies and ALWAYS wore a dragonfly pin -- she had several. Whenever I see pictures of dragonflies or the ones in my garden, I always get a little lump in my throat and think of my mom.

6. Love these photos, specially
the dragonflies. Also a friend of mine used to have his koi trained to come to him to get fed, and used it to take pictures. Unfortunately he no longer has koi since the herons decided they were an easy meal.

8. I have to "raccoon proof" my ponds
I put screens over them at night and turn on The ScareCrow, a motion-activated sprinkler. So far the herons haven't found them. I think my ponds are to small for the herons or too close to the house, but just about everyone else I know that has a fair sized pond has heron problems.

9. 25 cent goldfish
I stock mine with feeder goldfish, ask for "racoon food" in the pet store and they know what I am looking for.

10. My wine barrels
have feeder gold fish. But when I recently activated the 3' x 5' tub I plunked down some big bucks for 17 (all they had at the time) shebunkin. Cost me a grand $1.10 a piece--they were having a sale.
