When I was a little girl, my older brother used to collect butterflies with chloroform in a jar -- not so nice, I guess, but he was of a scientific bent and had a beautiful collection, all stuck with pins in a cork case. I used to love to run around in the fields on our farm with him and his butterfly net. When I was seven and he was 15, he accidentally shot himself in a hunting accident, which was devastating for me because we were so close. A few years later I finally brought myself to open up the butterfly case again, and all the pretty butterflies had turned to dust.
Your butterflies will last forever. Thank you.

sorry to hear about your brother. A friend of mine and I would do the same with butterflies when I was a young teenager. I would help catch the butterflies and he would and he would mount them. I never much cared for that part. I love butterfly photos because you are pretty much guaranteed a shot with beautiful colors. You really can't beat a butterfly/flower combination. :hi:

5. Maestro, where you are |
|
do you have those little blue butterflies that seem to hang around over mud puddles (that is, assuming there's any mud left in Texas these days)? Those were my favorites. Of course, we were in southern Ohio back then and maybe they don't live as far down south as you are, but I'd love to see a photo of those little guys if you can capture one.

but they may be a form of a skipper in my limited knowledge of butterflies. If I see one, I'll try to get a pic. Oh and as far as having mud around, it's around because of my sprinkler. We are in the midst of a dreadful drought.
Edit: I am about 40 miles south of downtown Dallas.

I just remember that when I was little, back in the Dark Ages, they used to flitter around close to the ground, which I liked because they were at my level. I wish we could share some of our rain with you - it's been kind of dreary up here this summer, but much preferable to what you all are facing. My husband's mother is up here visiting from Crockett, and she is REALLY enjoying the coolness.

Love the colors and the sharpness. The bees and skeeter posts are awesome too. I'm partial to Flutter-Bys.
