Channeling F. Gordon...
Edited on Tue Aug-22-06 09:07 PM by Blue_In_AK
Tired of reality based photographs (and stymied because of the rain), I decided to try a trick I read about in Outdoor Photographer a while back. These are of the flower boxes on my deck rail, shot with the 17-85 mm lens with a very slow shutter speed, going from 17 to 85 (or vice versa, I can't remember) while the shutter is open.

Impatient impatiens

Exploding geraniums (and impatiens, too)

1. Ahh!
I love the second one. What a neat trick, I've never thought of it before. I'm going to try it tomorrow. :)

2. Try doing that at night with a strobe
fired in different directions or at different things.

Very cool effect.

3. I don't have a strobe
:( But I can visualize what you're talking about. Have you done it?

4. Yes, but not for years
I might give it another shot with digital, might be interesting.

5. Way cool!
What fun. Gotta try it. Maybe our next contest should be motion.

I especially like the second one because the railing and house on the left are recognizable giving the photo an even more ethereal feel.

6. What I didn't realize I was doing in that second one
was catching the reflection off the windows in my open french patio door, which is what all those bright beams of light are. On that one I was standing just inside the door because it was raining pretty hard and I didn't want to get the camera wet. It's a stretch for me to get all "experimental," but I do kind of like the way these turned out.

10. That's "Jimi,"
Edited on Thu Aug-24-06 05:14 PM by Blue_In_AK
but I get your drift. :) Every time someone mentions that song, I think of the first time I heard it sitting in the student center at University of Houston, hanging out with my weirdo hippie friends. That, and "Crystal Ship" by the Doors were the most popular selections on the jukebox in the winter semester of 1967. And, of course, I'm always reminded of the inevitable "'Scuse me while I kiss this guy."

11. Be careful. Be very careful
:yoiks:

I've never tried that..... on purpose. I really like the 2nd one with the 'frozen' images. Looks like a triple exposure. Waaaay kewl.

The idea suggested using a slow sync flash sounds kewl also. Maybe I need to channel myself more often.
:smoke:
