First attempt at playing with GIMP

I'm a GIMP fan now.

1. I like that...
I don't know what GIMP is even, but it looks pretty cool.

2. It's like a free open-source photoshop.
They have versions for Unix, Windows and Macs. I'm running it on a fairly old iBook G4 and it's pretty fast. You can even get plug-ins for it, although it seems that there are no directions anywhere on how to actually install plugins on a mac, even though I know it can be done.

4. Photoshop just has a plug-ins folder
within the application's folder. Or try creating a folder named plug-ins and put it in your gimp folder. You may have to go to an Import menu for gimp to activate them. I'm not familiar with gimp so I'm just throwing out suggestions here. No guarantee they will work.

5. Yeah, the thing about gimp is it's all unix based.
I'm pretty sure I actually need to go into terminal to actually install the plugins. Oh well, I'll go figure it out on some gimp board later.

6. This is great.
Don't know anything about Gimp but looks like you are going to breeze through any learning process.

7. Very nice. If you are used to Photoshop style menus get
GIMPSHOP. It is a hack of GIMP to make it more friendly for Photoshop users. That's what I use.

There is one thing missing in GIMP that I really like in Photoshop is the ability to fade filters or other changes made. I know there's got to be a way to do it, and it might be quite simple, but I haven't found it yet.
