Poll question: Is there any interest in a 2007 DU Photo Snaparoo?
Just kinda' throwing out this poll question NOW to see if there would be any interest in DUers getting together sometime....somewhere in 2007 for a Snaparoo (others may call it a Photo Shoot). It wouldn't necessarily be just a Snaparoo.

Time to eat, drink, and be merry... and take a few photos.

When? I'm thinkin' sometime between May and August of 2007 (is that general enough??)

Where? Tough. Would like to hear some suggestions. The ideal place would be somewhere that would be camera friendly.

And this wouldn't be restricted to those with fancy dancy cameras. Disposable One Shot cameras are just as welcome.

I have some other crap I'll throw out on this but I'm just fielding the question now before I pursue some other things.... like ..... I have quite a few airline miles that I'd be willing to give out to a couple of people that might not be able to afford something like this.

Did I mention that I'm having a tough time going off "The Patch"? Truth? I had to slap one on today because I couldn't take it.

Thanks for your input, rants, questions.....
:hi:

1. I voted it depended on when and where but mostly for when.
July 7 I have to be here since my step daughter is getting married and I am taking pictures, it will be 7/07/07 and their yearly 4th of July spectacular. I have been told that we can invite anyone we want and it is a come for the party not a wedding. May is iffy because some man told me he is taking me to St. John's for a couple weeks.
Beyond those dates I vote hell yeah and lets crash in on Blue and Hullboss.

3. When and where would be key for me
Family gatherings take up most of the time I can take off from work - but if we happened to gather somewhere close in time and place to a family gathering (or in a time and place close to a business trip, or on a weekend) I'd figure out how to squeeze it in. (For the rest of the group: that's how F. Gordon happened to be out communing with mushrooms and trees this summer - I noticed our family vacation spot this year was in his home state and let him know I was headed his way.)

Sorry about "the Patch," but better "the Patch" than what its replacing. Keep up the good fight!

4. I voted depends on time and place
I would suggest Colorado.
1. central airport hub for continental U.S.
2. can't go wrong on the scenery
3. I have someone with whom to stay in Denver ;)

But I wouldn't say no to Alaska.

As for time, I would keep it earlier rather than later. August can get pretty nasty almost anywhere.

5. There are lots of good places around western Washington...

Seriously, you've got the Cascades, Olympic NP, Mount Rainier, Puget Sound. Urban shooters have one of the most photogenic cities in the U.S. What's not to like?

(And why do I get the feeling that everyone will be enthusiastic about the idea, as long as it's in their own backyard, or at least within driving range? )

6. All for it!!
For me,
the meeting would have to be either at Blue_In_AK's
or
at RagingInMiami's....
.
.
or someplace in between. :)

7. I'm all over this, FG!
I've met so many of the Photo Groupies now, and they've all been absolutely wonderful people. (Yes, even you, F.Gordon!) I would very much enjoy getting as many of us together at one time as possible.

The other good thing is that it's far enough in advance that no matter where we pick I can start financially planning to go anywhere. I'd love to do an Alaska trip! But August '07 is so far in the future I may even be back in Denver by that time, so I'm thinking... Colorado would be nice. :D

8. How about everyone in the Photography Forum posting their state
Then we can see if:
1) Where the best possible common ground could be for one, or more, more meet ups.

2) Possibly dividing the May-August time frame into several meet ups so that states can be grouped around the central meet up area.

(Would also love to see a CO, northern states, and Ozarks fall peak color meet ups :) *Just noting some of my favorite peak color areas...am sure there are more! :) )

Would like to add, ice break up in AK or the Lakes regions would be awesome as well!

12. Hey, ITF,
HullBoss just asked me if I wanted to go to New Orleans instead of San Francisco this year for our physicals. How far is that from where you are? Could you guarantee no hurricanes?

13. What time of year would that be?
I can guarantee no hurricane if you come between November and May (well, to about 99%). NOLA is about an hour/hour-and-a-half drive from my doorstep. usedtobesick and I would LOVE for you both to come down! NOLA can really use your tourist dollars, the French Quarter is ready for your business, and if you two come and stay a night or two with us in Biloxi, there are 2 cute seaside towns that were somewhat protected and are coming back (slowly but surely).

We could also take a swamp tour and photoshoot gators, snakes, and birds.

14. It would probably be in October, my guess...
...but hopefully things will stay quiet down there. I'm not quite up for a hurricane, but it would be worth risking it to see you two again. I'll keep you posted.

15. I actually think October is pretty safe.
November is just the official end of the season. I mean, when was the last time you heard about a hurricane striking in October?

(OK, I just looked it up, and apparently there's a 15% chance of a hurricane hitting in October, but put another way, there were only 8 hurricanes to hit the US in October between 1900-2000, and only one of those hit Louisiana/Mississippi.)

17. Okay, I'm convinced.
We're thinking of flying down on a Thursday, doing the medical thing Friday, and then maybe driving over to where you guys are either Friday evening or Saturday morning for the weekend. Then we'd fly home on Monday. Are you guys free on the weekends? That would really work best for us. I babysit my grandson before and after school, so we don't want to be gone too many weekdays.

I'll let you know dates when we've got it worked out.

20. Yes, weekends are good.
October's getting full, though. I'll be away for one full weekend (back in Denver for a meeting 10/4-10) and then be gone Saturday night/Sunday morning in Jackson on a preaching gig 10/21-22, but the other weekends are mostly open and pretty flexible. So I'll look forward to hearing back from you!

I have to preach that Sunday morning, but you are more than welcome to come hear me or to sleep through it. (Just don't come hear me and fall asleep in the church seats... sends a bad mesage to any other visitors.)

Hmm... now that I'm looking at the church calendar, I can see that we're also scheduled to show Gore's An Inconvenient Truth that evening, open to the public for free. Discussion on the spiritual implications of global warming to follow. I have to facilitate that, too, but, again, you'd be welcome to come. (And really, this event is completely dependent on whether I get the dvd in time from the group that's giving it out free to churches.)

So: We can be yours all day on Saturday, and even misbehave on Saturday night since church doesn't start until 10am on Sunday.

And then I'm free again for about 6 hours on Sunday afternoon. Is that enough time with us? Or (more likely) too much time?

10. Depending on how things go in November
Y'all may want to get safe haven with us American refugees in Soviet Canuckistan. As a keen student of the Underground Railroad, I think I can arrange some sort of safe water passage from Rochester.

And I know where to get decent hush puppies and cornbread here.
