Just some shots from this and a few recent autumns, for your amusement.

1. Well, they're wonderful, whatever they are...

:wow:

(I should remember this already, but where are you based? I'm envious of people who live where there are enough hardwood trees to get foliage like that -- although, obviously, it takes a fine photographer to get that sort of results from even the best autumn display. :applause: )

3. Thank you
We're in exile in Toronto (Soviet Canuckistan).

Someone once described the topography here as "an upside-down San Francisco"; the city is scored by dozens of deep glacial ravines, most of them immune from development. That's where the color was best this year. Up at street level, not so great. You can move around the city in any direction and never see one of these ravines unless you're looking for it.

There's a large American community here and a big chapter of Democrats Abroad. Nance and I actually met here. We love Toronto, though we've never become citizens and have no particular interest in Canadian politics (which is probably shameful). I lost my Southern accent years ago, but I've held on to the ability to pronounce "about" properly.

We were determined to return to the US all through the Clinton years, but as of 2000 we decided we're right where we want to be.

4. Got a spare room...?
If we don't win back Congress in November, I might need it! ;-)

6. Anytime
Toronto was essentially the northern terminus of the Underground Railroad, after all. We'd love to meet up with fellow DUers here, actually. Stupidly, we can't cross the border and get back into Canada until we go through a big red-tape hassle to get new immigrant cards. One thing Canada really excels at is bureaucracy.

2. You...... bastard
:hi:

I got no fall/autumn snaps this year. A few brown leaves.... that's about it.

Incredible "eye-poppin" color on these. And if this isn't your "help me pick" thing... can't wait to see what you enter.

5. Well, something quite different from these
That'll probably garner no more than a couple of votes, but is a personal favorite.

No trickery with saturation on any of these, though some required tweaking of curves just because the light gets weird down in the ravines. I spend so much time shooting purely urban scenes, so it's refreshing to seek out the pockets of hidden countryside in the city now and then.

And thanks, I'll wear that bastard badge proudly!:D

7. Dang. Meant to include this one when I posted
This is a view of downtown from Hanlan's Point, the end of a string of islands that encloses the harbor:

The first two pics in the OP were taken from almost the same spot, but looking east instead of north to the city. If you ever find yourself in Toronto, $5 will buy you a ferry ride to the islands. There's an amusement park for the kids, two little neighborhoods of charming cottages, a long bike path as flat and even as a pool table, the oldest lighthouse on the Great Lakes, an historic church and a nude beach.

Just a few yards away from where I stood to take these, a young pitcher for the Providence Grays hit his first professional homerun. His name was George Herman Ruth.

9. That one was taken 3 years ago
which was a great year for color. This year's maples haven't had much of that day-glo quality, and the sumach have gone from green to rust without much crimson in between.:-(

The trees just blew (colors). I've never seen a more blah fall, hell we've had better Maple color in Germany this year!

My favorites are 3,4,6. They reall put me there, but ALL are wonderful.

14. I had to look again to make sure I had it right
At certain points in this ravine it's hard to know whether you're seeing hanging branches, shrubs, or a mixture of both.

The day this was shot I was so absorbed by the colors I nearly ended up in the creek that runs through it. It's one thing to suffer for one's photography habit, but quite another to end up ass-deep in very cold and very dirty water.:scared:

12. These are really pretty, JeffR....
Red is a color that we miss - in our tree foliage at least - except for the mountain ashes and some ornamentals that people have around town. Maple trees remind me of my grandma's house in Ohio when I was a kid. Beautiful color and great syrup. :)

I always like Ohio, and Pennsylvania, during a nice fall when the conditions were right.

18. These are stunning.
You have a very unique way of presenting color - very painterly. All very nice, but I'd single out #7 (?) with the creek, and the last as my favorites.

The sense of color against darker trees just pops it out that much more.
