Seagulls at dawn
Another from that really remarkable sunrise in Biloxi.

1. Here's my favorite seagull photo
Taken early morning on the dock in Copper Harbor in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. I didn't have a very good zoom on my camera, so I actually had to get this close to take the photo. I'm surprised he let me get so close. It wasn't this dark out either, but the background just seemed to disappear, which I think makes the photo.

2. That is beautiful.
and you're right, it wouldn't be nearly so cool if the background wasn't dark. That's what I love about photography -- it's always surprising what comes out. (Unless you're some kind of expert and know exactly what you're doing all the time - which I definitely don't.)

5. Very nice, Mz. Pip
This was taken from the East Bay somewhere? I lived in the City and Marin County for 6 years in the late '60s and early '70s, but I don't remember seeing the bridge from this angle before. The light is perfect.

6. Behind the race track
There is a small beach in Albany (next to Berkeley) behind Golden Gate Fields. Gorgeous view. No one goes there. I know people who have lived in Albany for decades and don't know the place exists. I have about 500 shots that I've taken from that beach.

Here's another shot, looking a bit south.

7. That's really fabulous...
Next time we're in SF I'll have to give you a call so you can show me this secret spot. I really love it.

Here's an old shot that I have of San Francisco taken from Bolinas beach. It's such a photogenic city, my second favorite place in the world (second to Alaska, of course).

8. Wow, that's cool
I've never been in Bolinas at night - guess I'm wary of driving home on those winding ocean cliff roads.

Maybe it would be worth investing a night in a B&B just to get some of those shots.

9. I used to live there back in '71-'74.

This photo was taken April 2005, my first visit back since then. The place has hardly changed at all. :) Even the turn-off sign out on the highway was still missing. We stayed behind Smiley's Bar -- a little noisy, but a very nice room.

I really have some very fond memories of that place back in the old days. It was a fun time in my life.
