May I rant here in the safety of our little group?
Check out my thread here http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x2909958 and especially the responses. Is this the way we help each other out here on DU? I'm pretty amazed at this callousness, but I suppose I shouldn't be.

1. Well, I just posted over there
Doubt if it'll penetrate their thick skulls. I don't think you should take this as callousness. Just some puerile eejits who strayed into the wrong forum. Don't let it get you down.

3. (Regardless of what I think,) please note ...
Special Rules for DU Groups
Donating members have the ability to post in special forums called "DU Groups." All of the DU Groups are in the same folder, and they are designated by a special icon. DU Groups are a special type of forum, organized by DU members, and dedicated to a particular mission. The mission statement of each DU Group is pinned to the top of that group's forum listing. Individuals who participate in a particular DU Group must do so within the limits set by that Group's mission statement. Those who fail to abide by the mission statement, or whose presence is disruptive to the other members of that Group, will be barred from posting in that Group.

Unfortunately, in the past some members have used the protected "echo-chamber" available in the DU Groups in ways that increased feelings of victimization among members of that Group, or increased hostility toward DU members who are not participants in that Group. This has been a particular problem in Groups devoted to specific Democratic candidates, and in Groups for believers or non-believers. Because of this misuse of the DU Groups, we have been forced to institute a few additional rules to keep discussions productive.

Do not use the DU Groups to whip up feelings of victimization or to complain about perceived mistreatment by the administrators, moderators, or members of Democratic Underground.

Do not use the DU Groups to discuss members of Democratic Underground who you do not like, or whom you believe to be disruptors.

Do not use the DU Groups to "rally the troops" to go participate in discussion threads elsewhere on our website, or to likewise encourage members to vote in polls or recommend threads or alert on posts.

4. I understand your point...
I was just whining a little, and I'm okay now. I made peace with my antagonists. IM Paranoid and I are now great friends. :) Thanks for the reminder though.

I didn't think I was THAT far out of line, but whatever. I guess I'm in good company with JeffR and his lounge thread. :)

10. It's too bad it's over, I'd defend you. And get out of there fast as I don't like the other boards.

Unlike the photography group, the main threads seem to be full of hostile people.

It's so bad, I even start being rude to people on them, they're being so rude. I have to pull myself off to become civil again. I only spent a few mintues there today and already remember why I don't go to the main boards. The truth is, I don't like a lot of the DU'ers on the main boards.

Latest breaking news reminds me of a group of gawkers, where the news comes in and they gawk and flap their wings, then do it again with the next news, over and over until there's a fight - then they bite and tear at each other. And that's the ONLY one I can stand to look in on - to see what's in the news. It's still pretty bad - gun owners against non-gunowners and vice versa, athiests against christians(I've yet to see christians against athiests on there), men against women, women against men.Okay some hostile gay men with actual mysognistic views. Abortionists against people who don't believe in abortion - haven't yet seen an actual anti-abortionist there. I'm for women having abortions but not in the abort the day before it's born crowd - so I get attacked.

General discussion is so bad I don't go there other than to vote on photography contests and really, I should protest that because that crowd really is a bunch of angry pitbulls.

I have to remind myself of my athiests friends in real life and how they can tolerate other religions without insulting them. I lean toward Buddhaism. But I can handle everyone else doing what every they want. It's hard seeing others who can't. Ie knowing there are christians on the board and using terms like ja-zues and saying Jesus Christ intentionally in vain while defending athiesim, etc. It's shallow juvenility just to get a knife in to insult the other persons religion, while they're claiming the athiests aren't getting respect. I've even had people go after zen buddhism which mystified me.

I guess my biggest gripe is the people that are tolerant are going to come to the main boards and leave immediately because, who sane, want's to hang around all that hate. If I wanted that I'd go to freerepublic. But alas, it's here every bit as it is there. At least here there are still a few people who stand up to it.

anyway, that's my rant. I don't care what thread you were being attacked on. Chances are it was a typical ogre, out there trying to invent a fight with you. I know how they accumlate like zombies in a horror movie - who bite people to make them a zombie and then there are practically all zomibies and only a few normal people left and they're running away. I would have been happy to have taken your side. And then of course suggested you avoid the place like the plague, because, well there's flesh eating zombies out there.

11. FWIW, it was simply a thread requesting that people

with extra money consider sending some our way for our House candidate Diane Benson...nothing controversial at all. There were just a couple of jokesters on the thread who hijacked it to make silly jokes about the way I worded my subject line. I got a little testy about it, but enough sane people came to my rescue to get the thread back on track. I tend to think that getting good progressive Democrats elected is too serious an issue to be joked about at this time, even when the opportunity presents itself.

I agree with you on the hostility in GD and GD-Politics, but I keep going back just to read the threads with real information. I know who I trust and who I don't and who the contrarians are. Some people are just so predictable.

12. Hi, Blue_in_AK. Things are a bit out of hand this close to the election.
I think even reasonable people are going a little bit nuts. I had a thread in the Lounge about a woman's large tattoo locked last night. It turned into a flame war. Really ugly...

Let a little time fill. Hopefully things will settle down after the election. I hope your candidate wins. Thanks for participating at the DU. Sane folks do like your interesting posts.

Good night and good luck.

13. Thank you so much, Radio Lady
:pals: Yes, I've noticed quite a bit of mob hysteria around here the past few days ... it's hard not to get caught up in it. The bright spot in this season for me has been working with Diane Benson's campaign. Challenging Don Young, who's been in Congress since 1973, has been a long shot from the start, but it's been inspiring to watch Diane go from 30 points down to within 9 -- and we still have 15 percent undecided in the latest poll -- Young 43%, Diane 34%. Young has millions in his war chest; Diane is running on day-to-day contributions, but the grass roots support has just been phenomenal. Win or lose, it's been a real pleasure to get together with so many other wonderful progressive Alaskans, all working toward such worthy goals. As Democrats, we make mistakes sometimes, but I like us so much better than the other guys. :)
