Autumn in the City (NOT-SO-EXTREME DIAL-UP WARNING)

All of these were taken within a one-block radius in Seattle's University District on Sunday morning.

I love seeing the color. Eight inches of snow here ... we're back to black and white.

3. Seattle, huh? And they say that New England has all the fall colors!

4. Actually, it normally does...

...because the wilderness areas in the Northwest are predominantly evergreen forests, as opposed to the hardwoods of the Northeast. In fact, the best wilderness "autumn" photos I've gotten around here were the ones from Mount Baker last month, and it was the bushes and ground cover that had "turned," not any of the trees.

The difference here is that these photos were taken just north of the University of Washington, in a place where the trees were selected decades ago to give an "old college" feel -- which means, predominantly, the sort of trees you'd find on the campus of a New England university. Thus, you get the same fall colors in that part of Seattle that you'd find in the vicinity of Hahvahd Yahd. ;-)
